Default Best Clutch?

Hey Guys, I'm getting ready to change the complete clutch assy. in my 03 Coupe. I'm gonna need it to hold about 550-600 lb-ft while running DR's. I'm running a progressive NOS controller so I can soften the hit a bunch. I just need it to hold when I start the squeeze. I street drive 99% of the time so I'd like as street friendly as possible. What are your suggestions?

Dollar-for-dollar, it'll be tough to beat a Monster Level 3. They drive extremely nice and don't chatter post break-in. Their premium kit (which includes the slave cylinder) is only $699.99 and it'll hold 700tq all day long.

If you plan on upgrading your hydraulics as well, you may be interested in one of our Complete Clutch Swap Packages, here:

I think the best clutch we have been using is the RPS Carbon/Carbon twin. Drives very well and will hold a lot of power.

Buy from the person installing it... or... buy from an online retailer that will stand behind the product. You don't want to do it twice... especially if it's on your dime.

McLeod Street Twin...plan and simple. The complaints are are few and far between from the guy's that are running this clutch. Great street/strip clutch with zero chatter and it doesn't pull the "guts" out of your drivetrain on launch.

RPS makes 5 varieties of the twin, 4 of them carbon.

If that price applies to part# BC2PK-04LSX-C5-AL, I'm all over it.

(Hey, it's a twin)

Also... the price you paid to get the clutch isn't the only expense. Installing the clutch twice is something you don't want. If your car is a daily driver, imagine what would happen if you had to remove the clutch and ship it back to the manufacturer, wait for a replacement and then reinstall. That process took me 2 weeks without my daily driver. You're going to spend a pretty penny to get what you want, so be sure you get the right one the first time.

I second that (or third?....LOL) on the RPS carbon twins.....either of them would work well but my favorite is the mid priced "lite" version with the stamped steel clutch cover. Only a couple of hundred more than the heavier standard street twin and quite a bit less than the Billet cover version which looks alot nicer more so than actually offer you a considerable performance advantage.

I was heavily involved with the development of this product line (in fact my car was used for most of the R&D).....feel free to PM/contact me if you have any questions.

Its an excellent clutch and likely the last one you will ever purchase....the carbon friction material doesn't wear and seems to last forever. Its really the ultimate friction material (think extremely expensive high end brakes folks).

I'm going to have to agree with Tony as well. The RPS has been working out very well for a lot of our customers. Of course they do make a number of different clutches so some maybe overkill for your particular setup but for the money and the power level you are at they make some great clutches for the money.

I would stay away from some of the 're-badged' clutches on the market or those that just came out. RPS, McLeod, Exedy, Tilton, RAM have all been around for years and know what they are doing.

Awesome feedback fellows. I appreciate it very much. I like to do as much homework as I can. I don't mind paying for a quality product but I hate doing something twice. I will let you know which one I select. I will be doing all my own work. My wonderful wife bought me a lift a couple of years back so I'm equipped for the task.

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you all.

If your going McLeod I would suggest the RST with the alum. flywheel over the RXT. Personal option, we have had them in TT F-bodies making well over 650 rwhp with no issues.

Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!

6k hard driven miles on my Monster level 3.5 and its taken everything ive thrown at it. 15 psi slamming shifts all the way through 5th on a daily basis. Not bad for a $700 clutch package.
