Default FOB Retraining or Tire retraining

I installed a new battery today and can't reprogram my FOB. I've followed the instructions in the owners manuel. Once I get to the blank DIC page and hit reset the message says Tire Training. Also, I'm getting messages like low fuel and loss of power. When I try to start the car it dies immediately.

Check for tightness on your battery terminals.

Just because it is new does not mean that it is fully charged.
Make sure the battery posts and cables are clean.

Thanks for the Info. It worked, but as soon as I turned off the engine and restarted it 5 minutes later, I had the same problem again. Any other solutions ?

Pull your codes:

To enter the Diagnostic Display function perform the following steps in order:
1. Turn ON the ignition switch, engine OFF.
2. Press the RESET button to acknowledge any warning messages present.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the Driver Information Center (DIC) and hold.
4. While holding the OPTIONS button press the FUEL button 4 times within a 10 second period.
5. System will first enter automatic display mode followed by the manual display mode.
The automatic display feature allow you to read each module DTC display function in an automatic display sequence. Each system module DTC will be displayed for 3 seconds followed by a 1 second pause before the next DTC is displayed in an automatic sequence. If no DTC information is sent to the IPC from the system currently displayed on the IPC, the IPC will display NO CODES for that system. At any time during the automatic display function, the manual display feature can be activated by pressing any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 button. The E/M 5 button is used to completely exit the DIAGNOSTICS mode at any time. If there is a communications problem between any system, the IPC will display NO COMM when the IPC is trying to communicate with that system. When all DTCs have been displayed for all systems, the IPC will display NO MORE CODES for 2 seconds then will enter the manual display mode, waiting for manual mode operation.

The manual display feature allows you to manually select each module DTC display function. The manual mode will automatically be entered after the automatic DTC display sequence is complete, or can be entered at any time during the automatic mode by pressing any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 (E/M 5 button is used to exit the DIAGNOSTIC mode at any time). When the manual mode is selected, the IPC will display the MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS mode message for 2 seconds, or until any button on the DIC except the E/M 5 is pressed. After the MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS mode message is displayed, the IPC will display the first system abbreviation and quantity of codes stored for that system, then the IPC will wait for further instructions. The buttons on the DIC provide the following functions when operating the on-board diagnostic feature in the manual mode:

DIC Button Function
FUEL 1 Previous DTC
GAGES 2 Next DTC
TRIP 3 Previous System
OPTIONS 4 Next System
E/M 5 Exit Diagnostics
RESET Clear DTCs

It sounds like either there is still a bad connection at the battery or you have a bad battery.

You said "it worked". What exactly worked??????

If you mean checking the connections just the car running could have wiggled it enough it's not connecting right again.

If you mean you charged the battery but once the car was shut off and left for a bit it started acting up again then you likely have a bad battery there.

If you mean something else worked then please inform us because we are not mind readers. Troubleshooting 101 - when someone responds "it worked" or "I tried that" after being told to check 2 or 3 things then the people helping really have no clue what they actually did. If someone explains the exact steps they took then everyone helping knows what they did. Then, if one of those steps was wrong or if further steps are necessary the helper can very easily point it out...

Make sure the bolts on the battery cables are not bottoming in the threaded holes of the battery. I have seen that before. The bolt is tight but the cable can still be rotated.

How about you put a meter across the battery with the engine off and see what the static voltage is? Its got to be 12.5vdc or higher. If its below that, you are either discharged or a bad battery. When you start the engine, you should see 13.8 to 14.1 vdc nominal. If you see above or below that then there is a problem we can further help with.

Each one of those areas will have its own codes if any are present. Obviously you got a No Comm on one or more but we need the actual codes and on which items. Did you check the battery/battery cables as asked above?

I did check the battery and cables and found no problems. When I checked the codes, as reported in my last post, this was all of the information that was displayed. My gut tells me that I have a ground problem. I will check and clean the ground connector in the engine bay on the driver's side. What size self tapping screw will I need to replace the current screw ? Thanks for everyones help and support.

Why did you replace the battery in the first place.

No comms could also happen when there is a problem in the wiring in the rubber boots between the body and doors. Pull the boots out to get to the wiring.

Right now, we really still have no clue what your problem is. Once again, try providing some details....

Those are not codes. Those are the different areas where the codes can be viewed.

PCM = Powertrain Control Module
TCS = Traction Control System

And on... and on...

There are a TON of codes that can be pulled up. Look here for more information:

http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm

Or...

Hope this helps.

What year car do you have? If it is a 97 you may have to play with the DIC keys to get the FOB training message to come up. The instructions in the original 97 Owners Manual were wrong. I had the same problem with my 97 12 years ago.

I have a 2001. When I disconnect the battery for 1/2 an hour and then reconnect it, everything is back to normal until I turn off the engine and restart it. Then, I have problems with no radio, no fuel, reduced power, traction, etc. Afterwards, When I check the codes all I get is no communication.
