IAT sensor replacement
The '01-'04 cars have the IAT integrated into the MAF.
Can the IAT sensor be replaced without buying the whole MAF?
Tks,

Absolutely! Grab the pins with a pair of pliers and pull it out. It takes quite a bit of force. Assuming that you've measured the resistance to prove that it's defective, and not a connector problem, cut it off and solder in a new one. If you're not in a rush, and I mean no rush at all, pm me your address and I'll put a thermistor in a envelope and mail it to you from Canada. Either that, or post in the parts forum for someone to pull the IAT thermistor from a defective maf and mail it to you. You may even get lucky and find someone local to help.

There is another way. You can buy another IAT sensor, then cut the IAT wires going to the MAF and splice them into the new IAT. Many people that run meth injection do this so that if the meth pump fails, the IAT sensor will recognize it.
Let me know if you want more details.

Thanks guys. So, it's not an individual over-the-counter part, like the '97-'2000 IAT.
But I now understand that it can be removed from the MAF and replaced if another one can be found. I also like the approach of just popping in a new '97-'2000 IAT in the air bridge and running the original IAT wires into that.
We're gonna do a bit more fiddling; I think the problem may be in the wiring harness, cause it's intermittant, and probing the sensor always gives the correct resistance. Wiggle the wires near the intake manifold and the reading jumps all around; wiggle them again a minute later and the reading stays solid as a rock, right on the correct number - weird.
