Default New 04 C5 owner looking for some input

Hey Folks,

Picked mine up a little over a week ago and have been eyeballing mods like a kid in a candy store.

car has 41k miles and is in pristine shape.

Thinking of slapping in a 100shot. I have no past experience with nitrous. I will have a shop do it, it's a very reputable shop and they told me I could go to 125 and be fine but I wanted to check with people who aren't going to get paid for the install.

I understand with mods you start to hurt the reliability of the vehicle but how bad would a 100 shot be and should I go dry or wet?

Also looking at intake, exhaust and tune at some point.

I am VERY interested in a cam but I've been reading that once you open up the LS1 reliability goes down the toilet big time?

Last question, is what are some ideal mods to go with?

Oh and as a caveat, I've seen some forums where people give people asking questions like this a hard time saying the car is fast enough etc. My father has a supersnaked GT500 (729rwhp) -I'm not looking for anything like that, I'm not looking to go with a s/c or turbo for a couple years but I'd like some real power while balancing reliability as much as possible. I'm planning on going to the 1/4 and auto x frequently as soon as the track opens back up.

I gave up sportbikes awhile back and am looking at this as a safer toy which will keep enough of a grin on my face that I don't break down and buy another bike (hard not to).

100HP shot will be fine, wet is always the safer option. I believe the stock injectors can take up to about 100hp shot and deliver the correct fuel with a dry system.

Nitrous is very

I would go with a cam/supercharger, if you want good power.

Mods are like spicy food.....there is mild & there is wild!!

Start with a good CAI and a tune.Add additional spice as needed and re-tune accordingly.

That could not be the farthest thing from the truth. Do your homework, consult with the experts on your goals, and mod with confidence.

absolutly LS1'are very good and lots of interchangable parts
If you have a late production build(by checking your vin#) you already have some LS2 parts that were /are interchangable
i cant comment on nitrous but search around and you will find tons of modding info, good luck with your C5

These engines can hadle lots of HP improvements with stock internals---Often see 600 RWHP with stock crank-pistons-rods--
I would say anything over a 75 shot you should be careful with timing-When you get to 100 you should pull some in my opinion---and always use a race/pump gas mix---A wet system is safer but I would install a lo-pressure cutoff---A dry system relys on the data going thru your MAF to set the fuel needed via your injectors---So it's critical to have clean injectors--plenty of duty cycles left on the table and a clean MAF sensor---This makes it vulnerable to problems

Thanks for all the input guys.

Great to hear.

As for the whole nitrous thing... It's the best bang for the $$.

Just to be clear, a wet 100shot isn't really going to hurt anything?

Looking forward to reading more on the site.

I would recamend headers, x pipe, catback, and a CAI before you spray. I like spraying a 150 wet shot on LS1s. Never a dissapointment. I would not spray with the stock tune. I like to log the cars on a dyno when i set the kits up. AFR need to be watched to make sure the nitrous jetting is right. The stock timing on a ls1 is only 19 at wot so a tune will pick up power and efficiency. As long as the kit is set up correctly and you tune is good then your motor will last for many years on the bottle. Pm me if you have any more questions.

I prefer all throttle, no bottle...but tht's just me. I would shop around in the parts forum for a used Vararam or Honker CAI, some good used LT headers w/ X-pipe, and used Ti exhaust from a C5Z.

Then go get a good dyno tune, and that set up should get you 50-60 rwhp that you can use all the time, rather that 100 shot that is only there as long as you remeber to refill your bottle. If you're still not happy, then maybe add the 100 shot later...at least then your car breathes as good as it can in stock form.

Well the last 5 numbers tell you the build order so yours was 17,359 out of a total built of 34,064 so thats about the 50% point compared to mine at 32,621
I know mine has for example the LS2 waterpump not sure at what point( or VIN#) on the production they switched over.
You can go here for tons of info besides searching this site to.

OH BTW you also have the LS6 intake and 243 stamped heads which are used on the C5 Zo6 (405HP)

It seems to me that with a nitrous kit and install easily running >$1k that something like headers and a tune are a better first choice. you'll get around 40hp without a bottle to worry about and the headers become a requirement for more mods later.

I think the wet system with a low pressure cutout on the fuel would be the best choice for nitrous.
