Let me try this one more time
Tab in key cylinder broke off on 2003. Tried to bypass, but apparently I am doing something wrong. Had to use four resistors to match #2 key 523 ohms.
I purchased a new key cylinder, and thought that would solve the problem, it didnt. Went back to the chevy dealer where I got cylinder, they say I have to tow it in to reset computer after replacing key cylinder(doesnt make sense).
Towed car home, I havent been able to retrieve codes. Tried to jump start due to battery discharge nothing. Tried 30 minute relearn may not have enough charge on battery(tried portable jump starter to keep voltage up didnt work). I hope that I am doing something wrong in the bypass procedures.
The dealer claims that it will only be 98 dollars to reset system. Not bad but it could turn into needing xy and z. So before I tow it wanted to do my best.
Questions: 1. Does the dealer have to reset something that I cant do
2. What I'm I missing in the steps to do vats bypass.
Obviously I need the vats bypass for dumbies method-exact wires, how resistors connect etc.
3. Should I purchase the vats bypass resistor discussed on this forum could that be the issue. And why can I not find one for the c5. I assume that as long as its for a number #2 it doesnt matter.
Thanks, Will check any responses after I get to clients home.
You're right it appears to be the battery.
After putting everything back together without resistors, I tried to start it.
For the first time it tried to turn over, so I jumped it and it started.
I am still wondering why it didnt start when I tried to jump it a couple of days ago.
Maybe I had the bypass set up wrong or something else disconnected.
I will get the battery tested and replaced (I hope that's it).
I feel like going by the chevy dealer and asking them to show me what they were talking about as far as resetting the car after a key cylinder replacement.
Anyway I'm Glad I towed it home and got on corvette forum instead.
