How long should it take an accomplished corvette shop to change all 16 valve springs on a LS6? Is this a 1 / 1.5 hour job or less?
I did all 16 on mine a few months ago. Took me about 3.5 hours. An accomplished tech should be able to cut maybe an hour off.
The problem isn't what the tech can do it in, its what the book time is. I broke one spring on a trip (500 miles from home) and got charged about $250. That was 3 hours time. I know it didn't take that long.

Ok ... Need all 16 of mine changed I am 100% able to do it just do not have the spring compressor or a tool to put air into the cylinders .... but sounds like it may be cheaper to buy the tools and do it myself. Will have to check with my tech after the holiday.
book time for that job is 5.2 hours. Labor rate at 90 dollars the job would cost $468.00 plus valve cover gaskets. It should not take that long that would be the charge.
Do it your self and take all day. Pay your self $200/hr and then buy your self some new race parts. WIN WIN Problem solved .
Good luck, Tom
Thats what I am thinking... just posted a request for help in this section.. I do not have the tool but will purchase .... Hoping someone has done this before who is semi close to me ... Tackle it have a beer and save some money :-)
FYI , you don't need to you compressed air in the cylinders, I find it very difficult to get the fitting threaded in some of the hard to reach plug holes. Instead you can rotate each piston to TDC. The valves will not be able to drop more than 1/4" that way. Much easier IMO. There is a chart on www.ls1howto.com under cam install.

Check with some of the parts suppliers, they will loan tools. There is a Murrys near me that does.
Dropped the car off at my tuner here in raleigh .... 200 bucks labor ... I thought that was fair .....
Its prolly worth $200 just to save the pain in the back. My back hurts for a couple days after I do a set of springs. Its easier on a Corvette than a Camaro though...
