Default Larger Stock mass air sensor types question?

At the Chicago Vettefest I looked at a new stock large diameter mass air sensor(priced really good) to use on my '01 Z06. It is exactly the same size and configuration, but has a different number on it. Is there a meaningfull difference between various part numbers of the same size sensor?? The reason I ask is the engineers said the '01 vettes had screens on the sensors cause the trucks that used the sensors needed the screens, but for '02 the Vettes get the screens removed to increase flow since the Vettes air path is straight and doesn't need the screen. So do the trucks and Vettes use the same sensor? If so, I intend to buy one of these, remove the screen, and save my original.

if you remove the screen you may cause unwanted air turbulance in the MAF which could give you a crappy idle and maybe even a slight decrease in power. In my opinion, if you want to replace the MAF, buy the GMS MAF. Also, look in the C5 parts for sale section.

Hey LT!GMC I recently used your recommendations for 02 Z06 rear shocks to ease the ride a little ~~~~~ they do a nice job. About mas airflow sensors I have had lean codes with screen removed & Halltech intake setup & B&B shortie headers. Changed to granetelli MAS & it has been set at 10% rich by Granetelli & has not thrown codes since but it did at stock & 6% rich. It still has very little surge at float. These things need tuned with a MAFT or computer. Car probably runs better with stock setup with screen. O2 Z06 MAS have no screen & I am curious as to wheather they will run rignt on 01 Z computer with no codes or surge???? I have seen no posts about this although one of the major Chev parts suppliers advertises the 02 Z06 MAS for around $115.00 (Pace Chev I think) GM Parts direct would probably be cheaper. HAS ANYBODY TRIED THIS or know if it will work ??????
