Default High revs at start

Recently when I start my '02
it revs higher than it should for a few seconds. I'm concerned about the lack of lubrication on the cylinder walls when it does. Any idea what is the cause and remedy?

If it started suddenly, you most likely have a vacuum leak. If it has been that way since you have had the car, may be something that was done in the tune from a previous owner. There are start up air tables that may be set too high.

I hope that helps.

I agree...sounds like a vacuum leak or the airbridge has come off...unmetered air getting in somehow.

A vacuum leak would likely cause the high idle to persist past the inital startup.

The car will compensate for it after start up and bring the car back down to idle speeds, unless you are running in speed density.
