Default Texas Speed Custom grinds camshaft selection

Hi There Guys,

I am 2001 C5 owner, regards to the camshaft selection check the following custom grinds from Texas speed and let me know your valuable recommendations for the best selection for me:

http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=898&catid=44

As I am not interested to do any flycuts, but consider that I am going to by in the future the following:

1. High Performance Intake manifold with larger throttle body diameter
2. 100 HP Nitros Shot
3. I might go for supercharge application...

And I do have the following on my car:

1. 1 7/8 " Long-tube ARH - Off road with 3" X 3" X-Pipe
2. B&B Cat-back 4" quad tips
3. VARARAM VB-2 Air intake system
4. VARARAM Power duct
5. Tailor Spark plugs wires
6. BBK 1591 Under-drive crank pulley
7. 42 lbs Fuel injectors

I am considering overhauling my transmission gearbox and install the Transgo reprogramming and shift kit along with a new torque converter having a stall speed matching with the selection of the cam.

Regards

TAS

When you click on the link above there is a "pick list" to select your intake and exhaust lobes for your custom grind The 202 (Intake) and 212 (Exhaust) are the default values in those two pick lists.

Ok

I have used that to look at cam options.

But for N2 do you not want a smallish cam anyway ?

What is your ultimate goal for your C5? Sounds like you have an automatic transmission and stock LS1 heads. Your future upgrades may impact your decision - naturally aspirated vs. forced induction, aftermarket heads. I'm sure others will ask for information to help provide recommendations for cam grinds.

If you plan to stay naturally aspirated and don't want to fly-cut your pistons and want a cam that will idle and work well with your automatic transmission, you may want to consider something like a: 224"/228" .568"/.571" 114LSA. Also a good time to upgrade your OEM springs to the PRC dual valve springs and install hardened pushrods (7.40").

IMHO, you have a good setup with some nice upgrades. However, I believe your headers (1 7/8") is larger than what your LS1 setup can support and may actually lose power. The 1 3/4" header would be a better match. Good luck with your selection and build. NOTE: The discussion above re: 202/212 was about the Texas Speed webpage and its default pick list - no recommendation made there.

If sticking with stock heads, 224/230 .560 lift on a 114LSA will work great on nitrous

If doing heads, MS3 hands down

for N2

for NA the MS3 or G5X3 would be good choices with new heads.

If this is the rout you plan on taking then you may want to look into the LS3 Cam for C6's. Very similar profile. You can probably find one on here for less than 200 bucks.

Except the LS3 cam isn't a direct swap into a LS1 engine, so you'll have to convert to the Gen4 front mounted cam sensor setup and extend the sensor harness in order to use it.

Not really a cost-effective way to go about a cam swap.

Get a set of heads and a MS3 you wont regret it. Im stuck between heads or a FAST set-up for mine. The MS3 has a great sounds and puts down pretty good power.

You are Totally right. It is the whole genIII and genIV issue, my bad.
Well My best advice is to hit up TSP and check out there cam packages. Great price and they will do a custom grind if you dont see what you need.

why not ask someone that knows how to spec a cam for your specific needs.

Call Comp Cams or someone like that
