I have a 98 Convertible with a Magnaflow exhaust and X pipe (purchase from LAPD...AWESOME DEAL  THX SHAWN!!!!) also a K&N filter with a opened airbox. What performance gains should I expect with a Hypertech Programmer and what experience have you guys had with it.
Forgot to mention it is an A4.
Re: Hypertech Power Programmer III on a 98 C5 (batsallover)
With respect to your A4, the Powerloader (or any other custom programming) will do a couple of things that the HPP3 doesn't: (1) alter shift speed and (2) delete (or lessen) TM. With respect to engine tuning, both tinker with timing maps but PL does a better job with PE.
I like the HPP3 because you can revert to your previous programming. You cannot do that with the PL. The HPP3 was my "temporary" solution until LS1-Edit became available.
As far as I can see, the only useful thing the Hypertech does for my M6 car is lower the cooling fan temps. If I could do this separately, I would throw away my "Power Programmer." The thing is a piece of poopie. So far as I can see, its "power" programming actually hurts the car, judging by drag strip performance. Also, it doesn't even have the stock 3.42 gears in its program, much less the 3.73 which is widely used by me and others. 3.15 is as far as it will go. When I called "customer service" to mention this, I was told "tell it to the engineers." When I asked if I could talk to the "engineers," I was told "no."
