The column lock is stuck in the open position. You can drive around with it fine but I'm not sure for how long. I had to take mine to the dealer to get it fixed.
I had the same problem with mine. It means your column lock isn't functioning correctly - probably stuck in the "open" position, since you can still drive the car. Usually a symptom of a Body Control Module (BCM) computer problem, it can sometimes be corrected by pulling fuse 25 in the passenger footwell, wait 15 secs, & reinsert fuse.
You should have your dealer check to see if your car qualifies for the recall on column-lock problems: it can also stick "closed," when you start the car, in which case you are stuck with a locked steering wheel.
ill give that a try, thanks, i know that the car has already been in for this recall b/f i bought it, i wonder if this will still apply even if the warranty is out, as of last month that is :boxing
Recall should apply even after warranty is out, but I would guess it's just a BCM reset that'll fix it. Let me know how it works out.
btw, also check to make sure your a/c condensation is draining properly - if the drain hole gets plugged up, condensation can overflow and drown the BCM - found this out the hard way, too! :mad
