OK all.. I received my new Hurst shifter today and installed it. Coming from the B&M Ripper to the Hurst, my initial impression is the Hurst is MUCH smoother. No clunky shifts, the spring tension felt just right for what I like (a shade softer than stock B&M springs), and I think it's well worth the money.
The biggest change. No Rattles. My B&M didn't rattle either in the 1st month, but then got REALLY bad. More time will tell on this aspect.
Overall I think it's a well designed unit, and would be my first recommendation for an aftermarket shifter.
One question though too. I thought the T-56 tranny had internal stops and didn't require them on the shifter itself? I went ahead and set them just in case though.
You going to be at Streets of Willow Springs on Friday? If so you can check mine out then. I'm not running but I'm coming up since I have to be in LA on Friday night anyway.
you say you went from the Ripper to the Hurst...Can you comment on the length of the throw's versus the two?? I heard the Hurst is shorter...Can you tell us how much??
I can't tell any discernable difference in throw. I suspect the ACTUAL difference is so slight that it's not possible to tell. They're both VERY similar in throw in my opinion.
The Hurst is somewhere between the stock shifter and the ripper. The ripper IS stiff, but it's that way on purpose. The Hurst IMO is a much more livable daily thing.
Pros over stock:
1) you don't feel like you're rowing a boat (shorter throw)
2) no sloppy feeling
3) Adjustable spring tension. I liked the way it came.
Pros over Ripper:
1) you don't feel like you're at the gym working out (not as stiff)
2) NO RATTLES. There is some vibration above 3000rpm sometimes.. but NOTHING like what I experienced with the Ripper.
3) adjustable tension.

I noticed in The Z06 that the shifter emitted a lot of road noise. It isnt bad enough to deter me from buying one however. Are they be quieter in a Non Z?
Nice to hear Hurst rules! Ordered mine and still waiting
But can confirm B&M to be difficult and although I did like the 25% reduction in throw on the Ripper, the clunky shifts got to me in daily drive. The Hurst is suppose to be about 35% shorter throw over original GM shifter.
Enjoy! :) :seeya
