Ok, hears some background. I’m not a late model guy, however my father has a 2000 A4 C5 and would like to get it in the 12.50 ET range. His first modification was mufflers, mainly for looks and sound. Unfortunately we didn’t test after installing the muffler, so I can’t speak about ET gains from the mufflers. His second modification was the air box, and even though my father wanted to modify the original box and add a K&N filter, I was able to convince him to hold off for the VR ram air system. I spoke to Patrick twice and then he contacted my father when his name came up on the backorder list. My father placed the order, $499.00 + tax and shipping. We installed the system in my driveway in about 3 hours. The only difficult thing about the installation was those clips that went on the little plastic things that hold the black shroud. The VR installation instruction are good, however we (I) experienced a heart wrenching problem with the upper inside bolt that holds the ram air ducts. The kit supplies new longer bolts for the ram air ducts, and on our particular front cover the inside upper plastic mounting boss is not long enough for the longer bolt, so it pushed out on the front cover. It didn’t bleak through; however it did blemish the paint. I contact Patrick to inform him of our experience, test results and the potential problem with the longer bolts.

How did I get the Corvette Forum? I was informed of this board by a young C5 owner while at HRP making passes on 02/22/02. Since then, I’ve visited numerous times looking for information/ideas for additional modification in order to get the car into the 12.50 range. Over the last few days I’ve noticed several discussions regarding the VR ram air system so I contacted a couple people on this forum either by e-mail or phone and shared my experience. As stated above the VR ram air system is installed on a 2000 A4 C5 with B&B route66 mufflers. Those are the only two modifications to the car from stock test runs.
Best Stock run;
2.037 60’
5.663 330’
8.621 660’
84.36 MPH
11.175 1000’
13.354 1320’
103.37 MPH

Best Modified run;
2.012 60’
5.503 330’
8.347 660’
86.78 MPH
10.825 1000’
12.926 1320’ (traction limited with head)
107.08 MPH

Needless to say we are very pleased with the performance gains. The problem now is lack of traction, i.e. RF's and the recover after the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

Greg

BTW; I would have no problem convincing my father to spend another $500 dollars to pick up the next 4 tenths. Wishful thinking!

C5Cemo has been a great help to me, I am just looking for more VR owners to step up and recount their experience. My concern is with the Z06 screens, for sure they will decrease the effectiveness somewhat, but to what degree? I'm guessing that even with the screens in place, the VR gain will still be AT LEAST as much as the others, due to it having 2 openings, and the fact that air is forced into the ducts at speed. I'm gonna wait a little while longer. For sure I'm not gonna remove the Z06 screens.

Thanks,
