Default Fob Problems

I'm having fob problems. This started about two months ago. One day the fob just stopped working, did the retrain, it worked for a couple of days then stopped again. Put a new battery in,worked for a couple days again then stopped. Took it all apart & cleaned it & it worked again for a couple of days. Bought a brand new fob & now the brand new one won't train. Also the tire pressure system is still working.

Looking for possible solutions & maybe approximate cost. Any help, as always is greatly appreciated.

Did you get the correct fob for the 98? If you bought a 01-04 fob, it won't train to your car.

Definitely the right fob. The most exspensive one to buy.

What happens when you try to train the new fob? The symptoms you have are almost certainly a bad fob.

It does absolutely nothing. The brand new one or the old one, nothing.

Un-snap it and clean the contacts. That worked for one of mine on my old Jimmy I had.

Good Luck

You're not giving me details. When you go into the DIC programming and follow the instructions, does it say "fob learned"? Have you tried the DIC programming? The new fob will not do anything until programmed. If you are following the correct procedure from the manual and it does not learn the fob in the program mode, it is a bad new fob. (assuming the battery is good)

If you are trying only the "resynch" by holding the lock and unlock without first programming, you will not get the fob to work. Let me know what you have tried.

During FOB training it does nothing. You can hold the buttons for thirty seconds & not a sound or message such as FOB learned. I have programed a couple others for friends & am very familar with how its done. I'm just hoping the receiver has not gone out, as the tire monitors still work just fine. I tried another brand new battery I had & still nothing. I plan on disconnecting the cars battery this afternoon when I get off of work & maybe it'll reset everything. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If you have checked everything out and it still won't work then the problem is your car battery.
I had this problem several years ago. If your battery is not fully charged you won't be able to program the remotes.
Check your battery and make sure it's fully charged. If not, charge it up and then try training the remotes again.

Can you borrow a fob from one of those friends to try programming? If the tire sensors work, it's most likely going to end up being the fob. I've never used it, but O'Reillys Parts has a device that checks for remote output. I'm sure other parts places do, too.
