Default C6 Shifter Install Help

I've made multiple threads and so far no one has figured out the problem. Search threads by me and you'll see about 3-5 of them. But pretty much this is all you need to know I think.

Here's a video of me trying to install my C6 Shifter on top of the C6 Base. I've also tried installing my B&M Shifter on top of my C5 Base and the exact same problem occurs. (Before I tried to install my C6 Shifter, I had the B&M Shifter on and it was working perfectly. But ever since I removed it and put the C6 in, I can't get it to work right again.) I even took out my C6 Shifter and tried it on top of the C5 Base and once again, the same thing occurs. This leads me to believe it's an alignment problem. But so far I can't figure out any other way to align it better.

Here's a link to the video and thanks for the help.

It looks to me like you did not start out with the shifter in neutral before you removed it. You always start with shifter in neutral before removal, then you unbolt the three screws, not moving the shift rod to the tranny. It does matter which bolt you put in first. The first one in needs to the be the clamp on the shift rod, because the tranny is in neutral, and it establishes the distance for the other slotted holes.

lucky,

I'm curious what happens if you try to install a shifter when the shift rod is not in neutral and the shifter box is removed. When you install a new shifter, or reinstall the old one what happens to the "alignment?" How can you know that the shift rod is actually in neutral after trying to install a shifter improperly, and I guess, thereby, being "aligned?"

Good question. I've always ensured the tranny is in neutral before I begin, so I've never had a problem.

Please note that the part about the half moon from the shifter box pin and the bolt hole in the transmission linkage.

I replied in detail in your C5 General thread about this just now - give it a read. Also, I can send you the procedures out of the service manual via email although not sure if that will help at this point.
