Default broken exhaust valve spring

hey guys havent been on in quite a while..during the summer i broke a valve spring and still dont know what caused it. its been fixed under warranty( thanks to extended warranty )..i recently started visiting the site again and thought i would see if anyone would have an idea how this happened...

Facts:
2004 Z06..31k Miles..well taken care of
I do like to race the car ive been to the track quite a few times (5-6ish times )since ive had it (late last winter) and i do street race often.. i suspect that the previouse owner(first owner) took it to the autocross track as well

Performance MODS: Vararam with power duct,corsa x-pipe, borla straight pipes, TB bypass

so this is how it happened..i do like to drive my car spiritually often but i also like to take it easy with it and cruise..what was awkward is that i was just driven around town running errands the day before halloween..i was doing about 30mph and the car all of a sudden bogged out and died..BUT minutes before that the car had a nasty backfire which has never happened..but when the car bogged out and died i couldnt get it started again..the only way i could keep it running is if the keep the RPMs at about 3k RPM or i just pulse the gas to keep it running.. i was able to drive it home because i had to and than drove it to the Dealership to get fixed..

sooo what im thinking is that since the car does like to get raced and does get droven spiritually but is also babied..spring just decided to get stressed out and crack over all the toughness its been threw ..or just a Halloween coincidence

just thought id get reacquainted with the site and spark up a convo and hear some opinions

what im thinking is that since the car does like to get raced and does get droven spiritually but is also babied..spring just decided to get stressed out and crack over all the toughness its been threw ..or just a Halloween coincidence
How many times have you bounced it off the rev limiter while driving "spiritually"? BTW what does driving "spiritually" mean?

maybe 2-3 times ?? im pretty good at shifting on time..driving spiritually means likeing to drive the car the way its suppose to be driven!..(in my book atleast)

Perhaps it's just my perception, but LS6's breaking valve springs does not seem to be uncommon.

Probably has nothing to do with your spring issue, but a rule of thumb I have always followed (many hi-perf cars, blown/supercharged, and exotic sports cars) is to always bring the enging temp up before putting any revs on the engine. There is no specific temp, but allow enough idle time, even in summer, that engine parts including springs have a chance to heat cycle. Current Comp springs have over 100k on them with no problems. Yeah, I know... I'll probably break one tommorrow!

If its the yellow LS6 valve spring, this is unfortunately fairly common. You may want to consider some PAC 1215's and get rid of the GM springs before major damage occurs.

And the word you're looking for is "spirited". Sprititually means different things to different people, but is not applicable in this case.

Like several people already mentioned, you should make sure your oil temps are up before you get on the motor. Cold springs (high pressure ones more so) are prone to snapping when over-revved when cold.

Also, I have trouble imagining an LS1/LS6 having trouble idling when 1 cylinder is missing. In my experience, V8s will still run fairly well with one dead cylinder....not sure why you had to keep the RPMs up to keep it running.
