Default shock absorbers (FE1)

Where is the best place to buy ACDelco shock absorbers for a C5 corvette with a base FE1 suspension? The GM part numbers are 10431989 & 10431991. Local dealer wants $201.87 each for the front shocks and $231.65 for the rear shocks. I have no problem with odrering the shocks - Tire Rack doesn't carry the ACDelco brand. Any ideas.

Might as well order base suspension C6 shocks......they'll be much cheaper...

Wow that's expensive. My price is almost half that but GM is out of stock. C6 FE1s and FE3s are under $100 each (about $250 total) though and therefore probably a smarter option.

I put C6 ZO6 shocks on my 02 ZO6 and WOW,,,it made a significant difference in the way the car handles in emergent maneuvers and significantly improved the way the car handles on rough roads in high speed turns.

Have you ever entered a sweeping on ramp that has ruts or an uneven surface and feel the car side step in the turn? Thats what Im talking about and that problem is all but about gone with the 06 Z shocks

The absolute best part,,,,,they are only $250 new for ALL FOUR. Contact Gene Culley www.gmpartshouse.com He will hook you up!

In the C5 ZO6 the normal everyday ride didnt change much. So, there not some stiff horrible riding race shock. If you decide on them, you will like them. There a 100% OEM fit for the C5 so, you wont have to butcher your car to install them.

The FE1 is supposed to be part of the "Soft suspension" package. Some people like it for that reason. Change to any shock that is not the same might change the way it rides.

On this forum you will hear the stiffer the shock the better. Extremely stiff, extremely good, "3 inch solid rods of tool steel best." etc.. And doing that would meke it feel different.

If you want it stiffer i.e. no longer the soft suspension (And now unbalanced system from the design because you only changed shocks) then do this. It is quite legitimate to want a stiffer ride.

If you bought the car with it like it is and want to keep it like it is buy the proper part.

Just so you know what you might be getting into.
