Default Borla straight pipes with x-pipe

I posted earlier about my stingers, but after searching for hours I have decided I need to change them (I don't think the stingers will be loud enough for me in the long run). I know LT's will help somewhat, but I don't know if or when I will be able to put the LT's on.

Borla will take the stingers back and replace with another exhaust and X-pipe.

So my question is... Will the Borla straight pipe with an X-pipe be too raspy (remember I ran a SLP Loudmouth 1 on a LS1 Camaro SS for 3 years). And is Borla's X-pipe any good?

Thanks again!

I run Stingers on mine and its loud as crap. My wife can hear me coming from a mile away.(no joke) I have LT's no cats and a Texas-Speed MS3 Cam kit. Are you looking for annoying loud?

I just got my Borla straight pipes and OBX long tube headers (which come with hi-flow cats and x-pipe) in the mail. I'm waiting for my plugs and wires to come before I do the install. I can't comment on the sound yet. However, I'd first see what long tube headers your planning on getting before spending money on the Borla x-pipe. Often times, the LT's are sold complete with x-pipe. I got my OBXs shipped for $700. Subtract the amount you'd pay for just the x-pipe and your only paying a few hundred more for a full exhaust.

I don't want annoying at ALL, but the Stinger (to me) doesn't cut it. It barely is noticable over stock at idle. I guess that is why you should find someone that has the exhaust to hear in person. Every clip I heard sounded great. However, the mic is right next to the tips.

Has anyone heard the SLP's on a F-body? Even though it was loud, it sounded clean, I NEVER had a complaint. I don't a like raspy, popping exhaust. That is why I didn't do a SLP for the Corvette. In every clip I heard, it sounded canned and popping.

That would be your best bet. If you havent got your LT's yet let me know. I paid $475 plus shipping for my LT's and X-pipe. Ive had them on for 3 years now with no problems.

I have the Borla stingers W/4" dual tips and an obx x-pipe. Everything from the x-pipe forward is stock and all I can say is that it is VERY loud. Barely have a conversation with someone else in the car, much less talk on the phone. Unless you put an x-pipe on it, you will have the popping and gurgling sound that you've heard.

I run TPIS LTs, High flow cats, x-pipe and straight pipes.

Heck even at idle, you can not talk to someone unless your shouting. Music? forget it, Cell phone ring? Not a chance of hearing it.

and that is at idle. I wear ear plugs when I drive.

Would I do this for a DD? not a chance, for a weekend cruzer? NOPE. race or track only YES.

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully once I do the LT's it will wake them up enough. The local Vette guy says Kooks have the best fit and quality, so I guess I'll give them a shot. He wants $500 for the install. Too much?

Thats not a bad price. If your pretty good with motors the install isnt hard. I did mine myself in about 6 hours and alot of beer.

Hey guys,

Been a while since I posted on this... I am still running the Stingers and am still disappointed in them. I am ordering the straight pipes, but still want an idea of sound. If I remove the rear section of the stingers and leave the over pipes on, will that give me a good idea of sound? Or is it going to be a lot louder than straight pipes?

Honestly IMO its in the LT's

I had a Corsa catback, that was a nice upgrade, but I wanted LT's for the added performance, dynatech supermaxx system, months later took the mufflers off to clean and kept them off ever since, trust me LT's make the difference.

For example, my frieds Z stock catback system with LG LT headers sounded really nice, now those same ones are on my buddy's coupe with Stock manifolds sounds to me like stock, maybe a lil more but nothing to catch my eye or what your looking for.

I say Save the money for LT's maybe OBX(DoubleD mods gets my vote)

and then youll see

Stingers by themselves aren't all that loud, more raspy.
Stingers with LTs are awesome. Throaty at idle and they scream at WOT

This what Dynatech Longtubes with cats and x pipe with Borla straight pipes, and a mild cam sound like. To me it's loud. I wouldn't have a vette any other way. I've recieved many compliments on the sound.

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...xhaustClip.mp4

I originally had the borla xr1 system before adding the LT's. This system was very nice sounding, just as loud as loudmouths. In place of an x pipe it had a single resonator/muffler which both pipes passed through and then exited as 2 straight pipes. When I upgraded to the dynatech system I just replaced the resonator section with the x-pipe that came with the supremaxx system and then connected to the striaght over axle pipes of the borla xr1. No customization was needed since the xr1 used the factory located flange connection for the over axle pipes and the 2 systems mated perfectly. With the xr1 system however the factory pipes have to be cut after the cats and before the H section which the resonator replaces. So after all is said and done I was left with just the over axle straight pipes of the original xr1 system.

Borla straight pipes, actual straight pipes, are loud when you are on the gas, but mellow when cruising or idling. (mellow to those of us who like loud. Its all a personal perspective thing)

There is no raspy sound to them that I noticed, just a nice deep tone. I thought they were still too quite so I removed my cats and that made ALL the difference. I had to install resonators on the H-Pipe to bring the sound down just a bit.

Here is a members video of their straight pipes. I would say that this is pretty darn close to the actual sound you'll hear from the interior.

Put longtubes and straight pipes on and mellow goes away completely.
