Hi,
I'm a C5 newbie with a 03 Z06. On the HVAC, when using the auto mode, can the AC be turned off, but still remain in auto mode? Seems kind of dumb to have the AC on when it's cool outside. My Silverado allows auto mode with AC off.
Thanks, jcs44
I have wondered about this myself, thought that maybe my car may have had something wrong with the HVAC system because whenever I press auto, the A/C light comes on...even if it's 35deg!
No it won't turn off, the car uses the AC to regulate the temp. to what ever you have set it for. Kind of dumb, but my Mercedes does the same thing, only the AC actually runs all the time no constant recycling. Not noticeable in the Mercedes due to the clutch less compressor. Our cars tend to be annoying when it's cold out, so I just set the heat temp manually. May ask if it can be set say to 74 manually then why can't auto do it with out the AC being on......
From what I can tell, it attempts to try and be kinda precise. Other words if the heat is set at 74 and it goes to 75, then instead of just shutting down the heat to cool down to 74, it actually turns on the AC to cool it down. I actually work in a building that in January it was 35 degrees outside, was nice and warm and toastee inside, then it felt like the AC was on, went to bldg maint. and the engineer confirmed that the ac was actually on. He did state when the heat rose above a preset temp. The AC would kick in to lower it to the preset. What a waste of energy. Could you imagine your house being set up like that, what a utility bill we would get........
Bottom line my auto is turned off, temp is set to 72, I'll turn back on the auto when it gets hot........
