My key won't even go into the ignition now...

Lucky,
Thank you so much. I do have it all apart but where I'm hung up is not being able to turn the ignition...(see steps 8 & 9 on 1st page of service procedure)
You cannot release the shift lock cable from the back of the ignition switch itself without turning the key to the "on" position...
My key will now go into the ignition but will not turn...no matter what I try.

The park lock cable is connected to the back of the switch. You can seperate the switch from the lock assy, then take the lock assy to a locksmith so he can change the cylinder. If this is wrong, I'm sure I'll hear about it.

Byron,
Yes this is the exact step that I am at. Are you sure that I can disassemble that switch and disconnect the shift-lock cable without ruining the switch or locking up the security system?
I am already trying to get the lock cylinder out of the ignition switch, there is no way to disconnect the cable that I can see without turning the key and unplugging it?
Thanks you,
Donnie

If you mean slack on the shift-lock cable, then yes. There is a little bit and I can see everything perfect.
On the key though, it just won't budge sideways at all. I can get the key in and out of the ignition but will not turn.

Donnie, you posted in Bill's Ign Switch Repair thread. Go back and look at his pictures. The Rear half (white) seperates from the Front half (black). If you can seperate it, you won't have to unhook the Park Lock cable. The black part is the Lock Assy. If you take it to a good Locksmith, he should be able to remove the bad lock cylinder, and install the new one.
--------------------------------------------------
Edit---Now I've never seperated it, but from the pictures, it looks like it would come apart. So be careful!!!!!!!

Byron,
I have read through Bills thread many times. It's just that the cable goes all the way from the back of the switch assembly up to the front...
The part of the switch that we see opened up on Bills thread is not where the shift-lock cable resides.
How will I disconnect that cable from the switch to take it out of the car?

Then look at Lucky's instructions, disconnect the cable from the Shifter, and take it all to the Locksmith. Sorry bout that!!!!!!

Edit--- Now I see Lucky has another good Idea.

I still can't do this either...I'm pretty sure the cable itself runs behind the AC/radio then down under the console and up into the shifter...
I can't get any of that stuff out of there w/o turning the key because I have to be able to get the radio/AC/shifter IPC bezel off first...in order to get this off, I have to be able to get the car into low gear...

Well wait, if I am able to get that shift boot off of there, I can get that cable disconnected and shift it down...then I can fish that wire out the back and take it to the lock smith...
I just gotta see if I can figure out how to get that shifter boot off of there...
Push down and in right?
We'll see how it goes tomorrow morning.
Thank you again guys for the help.

I just wanted to post up and let you guys know that I did get it taken care of.
I ended up being able to get to that shift cable on the shifter base and disconnect it, then shift into low gear, pop the IPC bezel off, fish the shift cable back out from behind the radio/ac and then took the whole ignition with cable still intact to locksmith.
He was able to just drill it out, popped the new lock cylinder in. Took green cover off, cleaned contacts...put all back together.
Good to go!
Thanks again,
Donnie
