Purchased the C6 Z06 "snap" shifter and received it today.
The install is pretty straight forward on how it's "suppose" to go in.
All went smooth until I needed to loosen the torques screw in the coupler that connects the shaft from the shifter to the shifter linkage.
Now they say that the factory puts some lock tight on these screws and they must have over did it on this one. Also you are compressing the coupler around the shaft so there is probably some pressure on it??
The screw itself was slightly loose fitting on the torques wrench from the start....
Long story short the screw will not budge and I have totally messed it up trying to break it loose!! So I now have this brand new shifter sitting here and no way to install.
Any advise from the gurus to acheive this install. Easy out??
Drill it out and re-tap for a new screw.
Sounds like your torx bit was worn or cheap to start with. Try a new torx bit. You might can get on the head with some vise grips???
I think I would abort the mission before I started drilling. You might find yourself having to pull the tranny to get it fixed. If it doesn't come out with a new bit or vise grips just wait till clutch time to go after it.
If I understand it correctly, the torx bolt that attaches to shifter bolt is stripped. If that is the case, you can still install your shifter, just don't switch out the box. I am not sure there is any difference between the box part anyway. Just remove the 4 bolts that attaches shifter to the box and leave the box for now. Good luck with it.
The torx bolt that your having trouble with is real close to the cut out section where the shifter box is located(towards rear, bottom left). I would take the smallest type, or style cuttoff wheel(thickness of wheel very thin) I wold cut this bolt off, even w/ the coupler on opposite sides of one another. This way you would have flat spots on each side of the bolt. I would then take a premium(small )vice grip flat jaw (no cheapie!) I would then clamp down on both flats as close to the coupler as you can, & try screwing out. Before doing the vice grip thing, I would take a small pen torch & heat the improvised head of the bolt, to release the thread locker. Good luck!
Quick update... Nabbed and easy out from work. drilled the proper sized hole in the middle of the bolt...easyout in, bolt out, shifter installed. Feels good.

Thanks for the help
Well done. Don't forget to replace that bogus torx socket....
