Default C5 Drivers Seat Question

Just last week, I bought a REALLY nice 2001 MY coupe. 23,000 original miles, one local owner, etc.

It has ONE problem. The drivers seat.....down by the buttons to adjust the sport seats, is a plastic panel which holds the buttons.

That plastic piece was broken at the front screw hole, and had popped out in the middle. The prong and clip wouldn't "hold" in the seat.

SO, went to Chevy...got a new piece. Put it on, and it's better, BUT that center "prong" just will not "grab" in the hole in the seat frame.

It's like the hole (in the metal) is enlarged. I push it in, it pops right back out.

Things are better with the front screw installed in a "non broken" panel, but it still bows out because the prong won't hold.

What's the fix? Is there a retainer that I'm missing?

Darn thing should pop in and stay in. The passenger side is fine.

TIA

Chuck

Welcome to the club, I have broken 2 of these panels.

There is a change in the panels. Early C5s (I have a 1998) do not have the hole in the seat for the "prong", so you must cut off the prone or drill a hole in your seat for it.

Now, my panel broke a second time, and I figured it was due to my seat foam compacting with age. I have left it broke, until I replace seat foam.

Hope this helps, your 2001 may have the hole for the prone though.

The seat in my 2001 does have the hole for the prong. Problem is that the prong will slide into the hole, but the little metal "grippers" on the end of the prong will not grab in the hole.

It just slides in/slides out. It's almost like the hole is too big, or the prong is too small.

It's much better with the new piece on, as the front screw and its' reinforcement were broken on the old one, leaving the panel "flapping.

Now, at least it's "tacked down" in the front, but there is a 3/4 to 1 " gap all along the side.

Passengers side is fine.

Maybe some 600# guy owned the car previously and wore things out.

Thanks for your help.

Chuck
