Default Tired engine - weighing options

So one of my cylinders has developed a bit of excessive leakdown with accompanying rougher running and I'm thinking about what kind of replacement engine to go with.

The caddy ls6 longblocks look like a great idea, but I'd like to drop in a set of ported heads and a cam I never got around to installing. I sure hate to crack open what is essentially an extremely reliable package in order to do that.

I'd really like to go with a 427, but this is a daily driver and I want to keep that great highway mileage.

Any suggestions? Go with an aftermarket shortblock and maybe an in between step like the 383?

Thanks.

A 382 stroker is always a good idea. You will alot of torque, and can keep some gas mileage. The more air you feed an engine, the more fuel you need.

This is true^^^. The Blower actually makes the setup more efficient. My car is also procharged and I get around 32 MPG highway.

I really like the prices of the stroked 418s and 427s

You can have your old motor pulled, 600 hp installed for under $10k

Centrifugal superchargers, become more efficient as the impeller spins faster, which provides more power at higher RPM.

Supercharging not only produces a cooler air charge, but it also reduces Engine load.

Cooler air charge than what? BTW the EATON blower on the LS9 has been touted as being the most efficient on the market, it's a positive displacement roots type.

Excessive leak-down does not have to be piston ring or cylinder related. It can also be caused by intake or exhaust valve leak-by, a valve job would resolve that.

Thanks. When we were doing the leakdown, you could very clearly hear more hissing out of the open oil fill cap than with the other cylinders.

Edit: But if it did end up being a valve issue, I'd lmao since the leakdown results decided me to postpone the h/c upgrade. Those parts have been sitting on the shelf for over a year.
