Question of the day, yes I searched.
When did GM start putting the full floating wristpins in ZO6 LS6 engines? I thought 2005 ??? I'm in need of a couple (2) stock LS6 pistons with rods and the ones I'm replacing are full floating (2005 CTS-V)
It's my understanding that the LS2 engine got the floating pins.
The Corvette-spec LS6 was identical from '02 through '04.
*edit: Google searching found this thread that said 2005 LS engines got the floating pins and piston durability should be more than the 200,000 miles of previous engines among other benefits.
I could be mistaken, but I don't think the LS6 ever got full floating pins in production.
The LS6 is the evolution in the LS1, which had press-in pins. Engine ran 2001-04 in the vette, and 2004-05 in the caddy. I have detailed books on the LS6 up to 2003, and they were press-in. The only factory mods done to the engine that I know of were in 2002, when they improved the block breathing and cam profile.
Tear down your block and look at the pins on your good cylinders. If they are free-floating, the only reason I can think of is aftermarket. If they aren't, stock LS1 pins are interchangeable.
I guess I have the only factory freak LS6 with floating wristpins...not really, GM did it just not very long. Sometime in 04 and continuing thru 05 until the LS2 started going in Caddys they put floating wristpins into LS6s using the LS2 style bushed rod. My best contacts at GM are scratching their heads but will get back with me.

As I said, I could be wrong. My good info stops at 2003. Interested to see what you find out
