Default Exhaust Question

Hey all, I'm brand new to the forum and just have a quick question regarding upgrading my exhaust. I'm sure this topic has been covered many times but I would really appreciate some advice. I just sold my 92convertible auto trans with 180k miles and bought a 01 convertible 6 spd with 40k miles. The car is stock and all I plan on doing to it for now is adding the "Blackwing" Induction and upgrade the exhaust. I narrowed down my exhaust choices. I'm having a difficult time choosing between the Borla Stingers and B&B Bullets. Either way I'm going to purchase the dual 4 inch tips. They look very appealing to me. Can anyone with first hand experience with these systems let me know how satisfied they are with them and perhaps which one would add the most power and sound? Thanks for your time and I apologize if this subject has been covered countless times.

Your not going to get much if any power from a cat back just sound. I run Stingers and I love the sound. The B&B's also sound very good. Your best bet is to go around and listen to both systems and decide what you want. Good luck with the search.

Typical cat back is not a power adder. Sound is very subjective. Check out sounds bites and videos on youtube.....

Dont go on looks alone

Go to a car show and listen to their exhaust tone. Looks are important, but dont commit to the look and it may sound to loud or quite

Hey thanks for the replies. I never really thought about headers. I was just thinking about either one of those systems. If you don't mind me asking, what would you recommend for headers in addition to either one of those systems. I guess what i'm asking, what else should I get to compliment the exhaust to get the most out of it? Thanks.

We put B&B on my nephew's '04.
All exhaust opinions are personal, but neither of us really are wild about the 4 huge tips at the rear - if he were to do it again, he'd choose the two tips. He loves the deep, loud sound (and they are really, really loud) around town, but the extreme resonance at cruising speeds is absolutely unacceptable to me, and even annoys my young nephew to the point that he chooses to cruise in 5th gear on the highway. The resonance is so bad, it will shake screws out of the dash.
And this was with a totally stock car. Since we put on the LT's and high-flow cats and cam, even he is questioning his sanity on this exhaust system.
As an added note; he had the mounting tab welds on both sides break within the first month (probably all that resonance).

Other than that, they sound really cool cruising around town.

Am I just getting old????? Well maybe a bit.

American Racing 1 3/4 headers, 3" X pipe, and go with the bullets if you want the loudest car around. Have you seen the LGM big 3 catback? Not a huge sound, but an improvement over stock and flows great. I run it on my 402, but have dmh cutouts when I want the racecar sound. You could always forego the catback and add cutouts. That way you can have all the performance you want without the noise, but also a bump in performance and all the noise you can handle at the touch of a button. Its up to you.

Nah bro you aren't getting old. You are also dead on about that catback. I loved it for about the first couple years but I believe I can owe some of my diminished hearing to that catback. I remember starting the car for the first time post install, it was pure Nascar. I loved it. Then driving it, the interior noise was so bad you can't talk to the passenger or even use the stereo. With the quality of Michigan roads my welds broke several times. Even after I re-tigged them. So I ground off the weak b&b hanger and built my own out of 304 stainless steel. Tigged it all up and it was strong enough to stand on. LOL, I weigh 260 !!. One last comment, I'd rather have gone 2 tips as well but because of the required upkeep of the system. 2 tips to clean is a lot easier then 4 tipw. Call me lazy. To the OP I hope my experience helps. BTW, look into some cutouts and keep your factory catback.

Default catback exhaust

Hey , if you want to save a ton of money and get a great sounding exhaust? Borla straight pipes with Car Chemistry 3 disk inserts wrapped with stainlless steel wool. Used pipes on forum sell for less than $400 ,inserts are about $175. $575 and a great sounding system minus excessive drone in your cabin. Check out my exhaust on YOUTUBE,
1999 c5 borla straight pipes. The sound is not that great from a camera phone, but sounds great and is about 40lbs. lighter.
