Yep. Isolate the noise to a bank, remove the valve cover and inspect the rockers/springs.

Excellent advice! Look for a damaged rocker (internal roller bearings falling out) , loose or bent push rod and or broken spring.

In most cases..no. Like Bill stated, you may have lost the bearing(s) from a rocker. If that's the case, replace the rocker, and drain the oil, because the bearings have probably traveled to the pan. You may find a cracked spring, which just requires replacement. If you find a bent pushrod, the head may have to come off, but a leak down test will tell you that.

Honestly it sounds like the tool you need is a competent mechanic.

No offense to the OP, but if you have to ask what tools are required to pull a valve cover, then you had probably get some qualified help.

Before you rip your engine apart, you sure it's not the AC compressor clicking on and off?

ok i took the valve covers off (both sides) and everything is in place.... i even called a buddy of mine to give it a double check and he agreed that everything was good in the valvetrain

so i put the valve covers back.... and fire the car up after 2 weeks for my buddy to hear the noise... the car starts up and the noise is there off coarse.... but after 5-6 min of idling the noise is gone completely.......

weird, it sure sounded like some thing was loose in the valvetrain....and now its fine??

i recorded a video but i dont know how to post it... i can email it though

thnks guys

Do a compression check to isolate the problem cylinder.

But how does the engine run under load? Have you taken it out on the street?

You may have a lifter that is starting to go south on you. If it collapsed earlier then you would have had the loss of power and valve train noise.
