Default Need some help.....thanx

Well for now i just want to do little mods to make it as fast as possiable without having to tune it. Later in a few years i will drop a cam but for now i just want to be able to beat stock 02-04 vettes. Mine is an 01 z06 so i want to get more than the 405 hp, stock mine is 385 hp.

I just dnt want to make it to the point where I HAVE to tune it....i dont want to spend $$ on a tune when im going to spend $$ on a tune again when i drop the cam.

Remember that my car came with more restriction than the others, reason why it only has 385 and not 405....so with more air flow, i wonder if it will mess it up or mess the tune. Or can it handle it??

Is there any other things that i can do the the car to make it faster but not have to spend the major $$$$$????

THANK YOU EVERYONE

You can get a Cod air intake, full exhaust. Doing anything else and a tune would have to bve done.
The tune can handle it, the computers have the ability to re learn. Doing small things arent going to hurt anything. The tune that is programmed in the car cant mess up on its own. Once it sprogrammed in the car it cant change on its own.

I have to dis-agree to a point. Anything that you do to affect air flow thru the engine will start to degrade the factory tune. It wont cause engine damage but you will start to see degrees of effects in part throttle fuel economy (loss of fuel mileage) and part throttle performance. (Flat spots and bogging in some cases)

The secret to not affecting the tune is to keep the Long Term Fuel Trims (LTFT) negative. That will be tough to do without tuning. If LTFT's start going POSITIVE, you will start to see minor part throttle (CLOSED LOOP) issues and your Wide Open Throttle (OPEN LOOP) The more positive, the more degraded your tune will be.

When I added LT Headers and my VARARAM to my 02 ZO6,, I went from 28-29 MPG highway to 21-23 MPG highway. I had more power but the car was rich through out the RPM Band. My tune fixed that and gained even more power.

I found that the true forced air cold air intakes make the most power and cause the most changes to LTFT's Next is LT headers.

You don't always have to pay a lot for a tune. Why not find someone in your area that has tuning software who can tune, purchase a software license from their tuning software provider (EFI Live or HP Tuners) and have them adjust your tune to maximize your mods. A software license cost around $100. for EFI Live. Not sure about HP Tuners.

If it were me,,,,I would do all your mods at the same time and you will be much happier with your car and cash flow.

Best bang for the buck early mod is a tune.

Exhaust (i.e. headers, mid pipe, maybe cat back) is going to double the cost of a tune and depending on the brand, stats, etc., may give you 25-40 hp same as a good tune.
CAI are almost the price of a tune and give you 3-10 hp.

Get the tune if you are concerned with cost. Get all three if you are most concerned with performance.
