Default Autometer Install

Hey Guys,

I just bought an A pillar with a 2 pod set-up. I bought an autometer cobalt boost gauge and oil pressure gauge. I looked at the directions and i might as well not even have any. Has anyone done their own install with these gauges? If you could give me some guidance or direction it would be helpful. I would rather not bring it in to have it done cuz of $.

The boost gauge has an electrical harness that connects to the gauge and then connects to some sort of connector. It looks like I would hook up the wastegate hose to this connector, is that right? Also there are 3 other seperate wires that come off of the gauge, what do these go to?

As for the oil pressure gauge, where does the oil pressure sender unit go? And what wires do i need because it didn't come with any.

By the way, they are both electrical not mechanical.

Thanks guys.

I'm in the middle of installing a couple guages myself, but I'm installing a wideband O2 and a fuel pressure guage. Neither of my guages are mechanical so I have to have an 12v source when the guages come on.

I was thinking you only needed two electrical wires per guage because the only thing it has that's electrical is the face light. You should only need the red and black wire hooked up and the guage should still work without it. You just don't get to see the guage faces at night.

Anyway the ground or black wire is a no brainer. You can run a wire to the metal frame around the steering column, just make sure you scrape some of the paint off so you get a good contact. I'll let you know when I find a place to tap in for the face light 12v. I still haven't found it yet. It needs to turn on when the headlights go on. In my case one of the guages cannot use the dimmer switch for facelight. You should be okay.

As far as mechanical connections, that's the easy part. The boost teflon hose needs to attach somewhere to the manifold. I can't think of an opening off the top of my head to "T" into, but worst case you can always tap a line yourself into the manifold. I believe autometer used a 1/8 pipe thread, but don't quote me on that. The oil pressure guage can tap into the oil sending unit on the back of the manifold, but that's kind of a pain to get to. Maybe somebody else will chime in and give you an easier place to put it.

I think that the 12v connection is suppose to come from the ignition switch. Ok, I see what you're saying when tapping into the headlight switch. Cause really you only need the face light on when you have your headlights on. If you have the light wire connected to just any 12v source, the light will always be on wont they? Do I need to tap into my manifold if i have an electrical gauge? It looks like i just have to hook up my wastegate or brake booster hose to the connector.

Great, so i'll have to take off the manifold to get to the oil sending unit. How much oil pressure is normal anyways?

If you have either a mechanical guage or electrical you will still need to find a way into the manifold. There may be an existing hole you can use. If you had an electrical guage, the sensor would still have to have access to the pressure in the manifold.

Unless somebody has a better idea for the oil tap, that would be my suggestion. Just one question, why put one in if you have one built into the dash?
