I wouldn't use wood between the stand and the frame. If your worried about scratching the frame then try a piece of carpet or thick rag.

I looked at that link and it just looks dangerous.

Glad you weren't hurt

You're lucky you weren't under it when it fell!

I agree, the wood could allow it to slip off the stands esp in that pic. If you really wanted to use wood, I would use pine since it's much softer and would not allow the cross member or the jack stands to slip off.

I just drive up on two 2x4's with a 45degree angle on the ends then jack the car up with my floor jack then put the jack stands under the cross member with the V part of the JS cradle oriented toward the front and rear of the car.

Default ooo-rah!! Corvette Angel!! (pics)

What began as one of the worse days I've had, has, almost miraculously, turned into blessing!

All because of "0331Marine" (Chris) and the resourcefulness of this fantastic Corvette Forum!!

Turns-out that Chris had a used fan-assembly/shroud at home (had removed it from a Z06 when he did some mod's to a friends Vette).

An almost unbelieveable turn of events: 1) Chris was on the Forum; 2) he had the part; 3) he wasn't busy on Super Bowl Sunday; 4) he is a capable and experienced mechanic; and--perhaps most importantly--4) he lives ONLY 20 minutes away!!

Man--this would NEVER have happened pre-internet!!

Anyhoo--Chris came over (with his lovely wife and 18 month-old son) parts, tools, and enthusiasm at the ready.

Less than 2 hours later--up and running good as new!! (again--I was very lucky no additional damage)...

And we used my jacks, my jack-stands (NO wood this time) without issue. (side-jacked with pucks, one jack on each side, then placed stands in the correct position on the front X-member--by the "circle").

A few pics to tell the story:

the new-used assembly (top) & the shattered old one--note it knocked the fan clear-out of the assembly!

Ready to receive new parts:

Chris installing new assembly:

Finishing Touches:

Thanks to Chris for such great service--to me and to his Country!!

They are 4 point... I'm not going to jack the front and back up at the same time again--a least for now!

Great Story! Cudos to Chris! Wish he lived near me! Now, you have two high volume 12 VDC fans, let's see, what can we do with those? A cooler for the garage? Put it in a small frame with wheels on the bottom to roll around the garage? Just need a 20 amp 12VDC power supply to drive it, oh wait, those are about $80, you can get a cheap fan at wally world for lots less than that. Never mind.....
