At night, when I turn off the lights it makes a noise.
Is this the dreaded plastic gear problem?

What type of noise---? grind squeak ?

You will need to describe the noise. If it sounds like the motor is still turning the gear, then that is happening because the nylon gear is missing teeth. Those were the symptoms with my headlight, so I bought the repair kit and replaced the stock gear with a brass one. Works like a champ now.

 

For a quick fix you can disconnect the linkage & rotate the gear 180 deg. with the manual ****. I have a kit in reserve , but so far so good with the quick fix.

 

Almost certainly the gears. Take alook at Leaftyes sticky at the top of C5 General. Run down to the section on headlight gears
