I've heard these terms used to describe stock C5 wheels a lot. I was wondering if these terms are universal and agreed upon. The reason I'm asking is because I would like to refer to my wheels correctly. I think they're "Thin Spokes" but I'm not 100%.
Maybe I can get two birds with one stone here. The reason I'm wondering is because I would like to know the composition of my wheels. I have a little corrosion begining, that I would like to take care of. Are these wheels polished, or chrome-plated. I'm 90% sure they're polished, and I heard that there are no chrome-plated stock C5 wheels.
What do you guys recomend for polishing out this corrosion?
Here is a pick of my car, I don't have any wheel close-ups, but I'm sure you guys will be able to tell which wheels they are.
So, which ones do I have?? LOL! That's why I put the pic up. The're obviously 5 spoke. I'm pretty sure they're polished but want to be 100%.
Maybe somebody could post a pic of each different kind for everyone's benefit.
You do know the wheels are clear coated? If you polish you could end up worse than you are now. The corrosion may be occurring in spots where the clear coat is scratched or scraped. You may need to remove the clear coat and then polish with any good aluminum wheel polish. However, you will have to constantly polish them once you do that.

This is what I was trying to figure out. If there is in-fact a clear coat on there then I don't want to polish them. I was assuming that since this corrosion popped up so easily that there wasn't a clear coat on there. I looked really closely and it's pretty hard to tell.
There is a post elsewhere on here that talks about trying to determine if clearcoat is still on. You use a tiny bit of metal polish on a very small part and see if any black comes off on the rag.
I had the clearcoat flaking on mine. I stripped and polished mine(actually my 15 year old did it and a great job at that). They shine really nicely now and he stays on top of the polishing to keep them like new. You just have to keep a coat of metal polish on them.
