Good news! If you have a 6 speed, you already have 3.42s.......that should help with your choices...

Depends on future plans
If you're going to stay where you are right now with the engine mods, etc, I would vote for 4.10s. On the other hand, if you will be making changes in the future such as increasing the cubic inches or adding a huffer (or both), then I would definitely say stay with the 3.42s. Significant increases in power also brings significant increases in torque and lower gears can definitely prove to be a handicap when trying to get power to the ground. This is especially true on a street driven car. It is for this reason that I chose to stay with my 3.42s when I went through my drivetrain.
Beef everything up and make it as strong as you can? Sure. Lower the gear ratios on top of adding a lot more power? Not so much.

good point prob just heads and a nice cam i dont think i can afford a huffer lol
I also have 4:10's and I wish you could drive a C5 with them. It is a blast to drive. My friend has a C6 Z06 and loves the way mine takes off. Much more responsive than his on takeoff. After that....... well you know how fast a C6 Z06 is. He is thinking about getting 4:10's for his. If he does I just can't imagine the off line power he will have. It would be hard to stall it with 4:10's also. You can easily take off without giving it any gas. I can spin the tires at a 5 mph roll all the way to 6K if I want to. Some control of the pedal is necessary to avoid losing traction or a nice set of NITTO drag radials.
With a fairly stock motor I would go 4.10"s. I had them with the 346 and loved them, but when I went to the 418 and all the low end torque, I backed off to 3.73.
Good luck with your decision, and get ready for the perma-grin, no matter which one you choose.

Man I wish there was more post likes this. People get so crazy and talk about how great gears are. Gears especially for a street car are for under powered cars. Make more power not do gears.

When you have lots of HP, the stock 3.42s could be faster with all the low end torque.
i laugh at the people who say gears are a hadicap when you have that much low end power etc... if u have the money to put all this into ur motor why not put a set of nice rubber on the back to help get the power to the ground.. my cars a 408 makin 510/500 and then another 150 on the dope and it has 3.90s!! hooks quite well when i need it to with my mickeys.. if u have 3.42's i think personally it would be a waste of alot of money to swap to anything but 3.90/4.10s
