Default california smog question

Ok well I know alot of you on here are from california. I am due to be moving there and need to know what will pass smog. Will borla short headers pass smog? I know the kooks long tubes I have will not and I am sure the hi flow cats arent helping either.

Any advice and do's and do not's for smog will help out greatly.

I see your coming from the big j-ville. I just came out here about a year ago from Lejeune. You should pass with shortys. Me on the other hand, I have to go and get a temp pass every 2 months, because of my long tubes, cam, intake, no cats, and so on but I only drive my Vette on base maybe once a week....... I think its BS that they want me to SMOG test my car even though I have GA plates. Let me know when you get out here.

I am a cali resident so I have been registered in NC and getting away with long tubes, blower, lower termastat and all that good stuff. But because of me being from cali I can't do the temp pass and keep it rehestered in NC. I am going to downgrade the exhaust. But still make good power because of the blower.

Sorry about spelling I am on my phone waiting to get a hair cut

Yea that sucks.

I think I have a plan that may just keep me over 500 hp and still be able to pass smog.

I am looking at borla shorty headers with the z06 h pipe to include cats and then an after market cat back or the ti exhaust from the z06.

Do you know if all aftermarket cams fail smog or anything about that?

What area do you live? I am looking at temecula but looks like I am going to have to drive an hour there and back everyday and that will suck

Yea I am going to get up with those guys. I am really not liking the idea of going to Ca right now. I also got to find out if my blower, fuel injectors, intercooler, air filter, and all that stuff is legal also.

While shorty headers are the only ones that are capable of receiving a CARB EO#, not all shorties have one. Just being a shorty header is not enough, it must have the CARB EO#

I did a quick search and found that Borla had EO#'s listed for headers made for 2000 & 2001-2002 Corvettes. I saw nothing for '03 or '04 Corvettes. Your headers will probably have a plate with the EO# stamped on them.

I don't think I have a snowballs chance in hell with getting my car to be legal in california. It is really going to suck If I can not get it to pass.

There are quite a few supercharged C5s in CA making well over 500 HP (stock cam) at the crank (a bit over 490 RWHP), so it is very possible to have a clean, high-HP C5 over here.

While LTs are illegal, at least some guys I know get them past the visual part of the test.

I would not want to push my luck with a cam that barely passes the HC portion, as eventually, it will fail the test. But hey, 490 RWH is plenty, at least to me (I have far less than that).

I looked at my s/c and well it don't have an eo number so looks like it will cost to much to get to a ca legal status so it will be going up for sale.

Yea, the supercharger is not smog compliant in cali. I have a few options. I can sell all my parts and go back to near stock. then get a differnt blower. Or I can sell the car here and move up to somthing newer. I may sell and go to a c6z.

Pm me with details on what you can do about the smog?

I'd call the manufacturer, first. There's a good chance that it is smog legal. I believe Vortech, Maggie, and Pro-Chargers are all smog legal.

Im 100% California smog legal with my Vortech setup. Been pulled over a few times and told to open the hood for inspection and let go after they see im ok.

Beware though not just any EO# will work on the SC head unit, it has to be the right number for year/model vehicle that its on when they call it in/look it up. My smog place called the state when my car was on the rollers to verify the number and that it was correct for my year/model Vette.

I have emailed ecs to see what they can tell me. awaiting a response, but from what I can tell and looking at the eo# list paxton head units themselfs have some that have the eo#'s for there kits. My kit was not made by paxton it just uses there head unit and in turn the kit would have had to been tested and I don't believe that ecs has paid to have this done. I am still looking up all the laws and waiting ecs to email me back.

Even though you are from Calif, don't you have the flexibility to become a NC resident so you can keep it registered in NC when you come to Calif?

Keep it registered outta state

Ive just gone three rounds with the state..... even THEY cant agree wheta legal and whats not.. three state organizations and got three diffrent answers on teh same question.. scary stuff.
The best advice I got was when its time to do the smog.. go tosome outta the way place OUTSIDE the city and have it done there... They're less likey to know what their looking at.. and even lest likely to care.. they just want their money!
