Where is the ABS pump on the EBCM?
I asked what code C1243 means. A member was very kind to send me a detailed description. He said the pump seldom comes on. He removed it and exercised the pump on a bench and got it working again. I guess it gets gummed up and gets sluggish.
Is the pump located in the ABS block?
Do they cost a lot to replace?
Are they hard to replace?
Can slamming on the brakes a few times help the pump and get it working again?
Do you have to be moving to slam on the brakes and get the pump working?

I believe it is.
Do they cost a lot to replace?
New YES-ALOT
Are they hard to replace?
No but I believe they have to be flushed/Bleed with a Tech II on a fresh install.

Sometimes I've read.
Do you have to be moving to slam on the brakes and get the pump working
ABS would not kick on if you weren't moving.

This topic has been coverd a lot, read through this very recent post. You can work the pump by applying voltage to the pin in the connector. Bill Curlee has excellent pics and info on most everyting ECBM related.

Depends on the year C5 but, you either have THIS:
97 early 98 rear mounted EBTCM:
MOTOR with external ground:
OR THIS:
The round motor looking thing is the motor that drives the pump.

Q1: "I asked what code C1243 mean" = HELL LOL
Really means Stalled BPMV (abs pump)
Q2: "Is the pump located in the ABS block" = connected to EBCM (see picture)
Q3: " they cost a lot to replace" = very expensive to replace ($1,400)
Q4: "Are they hard to replace" = Unsure never replaced one
Q5: "Can slamming on the brakes a few times help the pump and get it working again" = Yes, but it seems to be a temporary
Q6: "Do you have to be moving to slam on the brakes and get the pump working" = You can remove the EBCM and energize pin # 8 (will have to use serach to find the exact details)

I have a Code 1243 flowchart if you need it - Send PM with E-mail
Are you getting the code when you start the car OR when your active handling/traction control comes on (tires spinning/losing traction/locking tires)?
Here is a picture of the EBCM & BPMV (top view)

Great picture of a late 98-2000 front mounted EBTCM pump motor. I have never owned one and dont have any pictures of one.
