Default Crankshaft position sensor

Hi all,
My car again, it just randomly stalls out and will not restart. The next day, sometimes later that day, it will restart again. I read the codes again. This time it was the code for the CKPS. It showed both a C and H after it and a code for the Data Comm failure U1000C. I then cleared the codes waited awhile and it restarted. Again later it stalled this time a security code to the BCM for the key, I think C2721? First it had a C after it and then it went to a H. To the point, it seems there are always different codes getting set after I have the no start problem. It would not restart after the 3 minute wait.

I feel it is the Crank Position Sensor. Does anyone know if you have to remove the catalytic converter, and the starter to replace it as the FSM states or can it be done easier? Anyone know how much approximatey one costs.

It seems like everytime my car fails it sets different codes. The car turns over well but won't start. Battery voltage is good, new battery about 3 months ago. BCM maybe?

I would be seriously getting up close and personal with all the wiring in and around the starter and the crank sensor. To me, your problem sounds much more like broken/damaged/pinched wiring or connectors than anything else. If you have headers installed, this makes it even more likely.

While you can't rule out a faulty crank sensor completely, the fact is, they are very robust and reliable in their design. Same for the BCM.

Thanks for your reply. You know I think your onto something. It is intermittent. The first thing I will do is jack up the car crawl under with a light and take a good look, if I can without disconnecting anything. I don't know if you can see anything without removing the exhaust, starter etc, but I will definately look. I can't seem to find a pattern to when it cuts out other than maybe when it gets hot and not even always then, that's why I think it might be the crank sensor. This has me baffled. Thanks for any help. I'll try and see how the crank sensor wires are routed?

Yeah, I'll be the first to admit that intermittent electrical gremlins are one of the worst kinds of problems to troubleshoot. Who knows? It may even be something as simple as a crank sensor connector that's not seated all the way in or something. Maybe chaffed wiring harness. Just make sure you're not wearing any metal or using any screwdriver or wrench down in that area with the battery still connected. Don't need a 4th of July show.

Did you inspect the crank sensor wiring?

Not yet. You mean the wiring on the sensoe itself. That is my plan as of now is to lift the car up get under there and inspect best I can with a light. I don't even know if I can access the area without disassemling the exhaust, starter.
