Default Is fan adjustment really needed?

Hi guy's, just joined. Great info. I've read that if you go to a lower stat, 160 or 180, you need to lower the fan settings. I had a LT1 Camaro prior that I put a 160 on and as long as I was moving, the temp stayed around 160. If I was Idling for a while it would creep up. Is the LS1 different? Thanks.

There are a few aftermarket fan controllers out there!
I changed my Thermostat and haven't changed the fan settings.
Don't see much diff.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to do that!
But for me it's just another mod that could go bad.

I changed my tsat to a 160 and noticed cooler temps on the highway and I'm waiting to purchase a fan controller to help out in traffic. :jester

As Borba said, with a lower temp thermostat, and no fan adjustments, the temps will be lower during highway driving, but stay the same in stop-and-go. The LS1 Vette doesn't push air through the radiator until about 45 mph, without fans. Ya gotta get the fans to turn on at lower temps for this mod to work well all the time.

Want the fans on in traffic? Turn the A/C on and the fans will be on. Runs right at 192* with stock stat.

If anyone installs a fan controller temperature switch, you want to make sure it is set high enough so that the thermostat and controller are not fighting each other. There is an approximate 10 deg. F swing between the temperature when the thermo switch closes and when it opens. For example, if you set it to come on at 200 deg. F, then the thermo switch will stay closed until it gets down to 190 deg. F. If you've got the stock 195 thermostat in, it is trying to bring the coolant up to 195 F. Net result: your fans will be on all the time. :seeya
