Default Replacing Oil Sender From Underneath any Easier?

Like most C5 owners on the forum I am about to replace the oil pressure sending unit on my '01 'vette. I have seen the write-ups regarding a top-down approach and have checked the pics in some of those posts.

I have access to a lift and will have the car up on the lift soon to replace the air dam and am wondering if I can get to the oil pressure sending unit from below. Is it even visible from underneath the car? If so is that route any easier than coming from the top?

I'm just wondering if anyone has had success going this route.

Thank you!!

Even if you could get a hand on it, how do you intend to get torque wrench up there?

Figured as much - just haven't had the opportunity to look.

Thanks for the info.

You have two options...

1) pull the intake and have direct access.

2) remove the plastic cowl and chop a window directly above the sender.

I opted for #1

p.s. I forgot what size socket you need offhand, but I remember it was a large deep socket. Might wanna find out ahead of time. I made a trip to the local Pepboys and bought a single socket for the size I needed.

Maybe if you drop the entire rotating assembly...nope that won't work, either.

Your better option is to plug off or abandon the oem sensor position and mount a new sensor remotely.

Default Oil sender

I went with the cowl removal and acess hole cut, it was very easy. I replaced the stock sending unit with one from another car either a buick or oldmobile sender, I herd that the stock vette one will go bad again just like the original. The replacment was easy. I didi have to get a adpater to screw onto the new one and it went right in. Make sure you use some teflon tape on the threads when you install the new one, however route you choose.

Removing the intake is not a big deal-had mine off to replace one of the knock sensors.

It measures oil pressure post-filter, and at the very worst, you can just remove the entire block and change sensors at your work bench.

If you ever get in the mood to make another, I would sooo buy one of those. How does $40.00 sound?

Brother, if I had a CNC mill I'd make 'em for you all day long! That being said, I don't have one. I probably spent 20hrs on this puppy milling it by hand...when it's a pet project, that's OK. When it's business, that's bankruptcy
