According to the instructions, after it is dry, you should oil the filter as you would a K&N.
Question for others--I have a K&N cleaning kit. Since these filters are similar, can the K&N kit be used on a Blackwing?? :crazy:

Considering the cost of the Blackwing unit, spending a few bucks on getting the manufacturer's cleaning products maybe well worth your time.

There is a Donaldson made cleaner and oil package. If you don't want to use it, you can use Simple Green to clean and mineral oil to re-oil. Use low pressure water hose from the inside of the filter out to flush cleaner. Don't make the mistake I did when re-oiling, it doesn't take much! Mine dripped oil for weeks after.

Good advice. Also don't forget: Don't use a blow dryer or any other type of heat to speed up the drying time after washing. It must air dry only. :D
