[QUOTE=jsbihn;1573326791]Ok thats basically my question
At what amount of torque/hp would you say the DTE brace is needed on a Z06 tranny?[/QUOT Does the DTE brace minimize/eliminate wheel hop or just save parts from breaking
It tries to keep the trans from rotating (and breaking) if the diff blows. You will hear a varied opinion on these. Most will say 'might as well add it'. I'm at 650 and do not have one. I put in both hardened output shafts and no brace.
but this wheel hop sounds like it would come from dropping the clutch at high rpms with stick tires.
basically this car is a weekender with an occasional light to light run or a sprint on the interstate
i had 100x more wheel hop with the crappy stock tires. The stickier the tire, the better it is. Its just the IRS and nothing can really stop it. It does not depend on horsepower at all. 100rwhp can make it wheel hop.
Often times transmission movement/flex can be mistaken for wheel-hop. I've experienced both (on street tires, never on 26" M&Hs) numerous times before I installed the DTE brace. Since installing the brace, I have yet to experience wheel-hop or, obviously, transmission movement. I know that it's a 50/50 crowd when it comes to needing/not needing a brace, but I'm glad I spent the money on one.
I'd definitely recommend either the ECS or DTE brace. Both great products.
I have the DTE brace, PFADT trans mount, and PFADT engine mounts. I get NO wheel hop above 45 degrees, unless I really heat up the tires. Cold outside = cold tires = wheel hop, even with all the extras. Runs great the rest of the year in all conditions.
