Default Help Connecting Power to LED from Side Marker

I bought an LED strip for my exaust plate area that I am attempting to install today but am unclear about how to connect the power using a little red connector provided from the vendor. It's Saturday and this vendor does not provide a phone # so I am trying to see what I can find out here.

The connector has two tubes for what I think is two wires except on my connector one of the tubes does not go all the way through?

The connector has a metal shard that when one closes the connector with a pair of pliers the shard, I guess, is pressed down into the wires running through the tubes and makes a connection.

What I am not sure about is how to put the side marker brown and black wires in this thing along with the black and red wires in order to close the thing and make a connection. (I do know its' brown to red and black to black).

Any idea what all of my jibberish is about? Write to me and tell me, lol.

Sounds as if you just ground the black wire from the LED strip with the connector used to splice into the hot wire going to the side marker.

The hot wire to the side marker goes into the 'through' side of the connector. The lead to the LED goes in the partial side then you crimp down the metal. If it works as designed the metal piece cuts the insulation and gives you the connection you need.

Thanks Gary, What you say makes a lot of sense out of this connector. What I have so far is that the hot wire (brown) from the side marker goes into the "through" side of the connector and the red wire from the LED goes into the partial side which is through enough to be further than the metal piece.

What I am still not clear about is where is the ground (black) wire from the LED go? and does the ground from the side marker fit into this installation at all?

Thanks so much for your help!

Chuck

I'd look at tying the ground from the LED into where the license plate lights ground or if it's long enough just tie it into the ground for the side marker.

That would make sense because it's closer to where the LED would be mounted. Cleaner install and shorter wire run.

I appreciate all of the suggestions but I think it best to stick with the instructions/mounting/connecting provided by the vendor in case something doesn't work out.

I guess I am still not asking the right question as it doesn't seem the black ground wires from either the LED or the side marker are explained either in my instructions from the vendor or what is being suggested here.

There is no instruction to cut the ground wire from the side market and, using a wire nut or something, connect all three ends (two from the cut side marker ground and the LED ground). And there was no wire nut included in the package?

I am probably too dense to pick up on what is being indicated. I am going to try to put the brown wire in the through part of the connector, the red LED wire in the partial and close the thing pushing the shard of metal down into both. Then I will cut the side marker ground, strip off some plastic covering and twist thre three ground wires together and electrical tape the result.

Thanks again for your help.

Did you buy our kit? If so it's easy.

The suggestions provided are right on.

Use the end of the connector which goes all the way through for the side marker wire. Use the short side (that the wire won't go all the way through) for the led strip wire. Hold them down and press down with the pliers.

Do this for both wires. You don't need to cut anything.

You can use the license plate light. They work just like the side markers (only on when lights or running lights on).

I'd think the kit should have come with two connectors.

Assuming it's yours.

Other vendors might not be as nice, it may have been a packing error or the OP just didn't mention it.

The kit was from JW and he has been in contact with me this morning. It appears the kit was provided missing one of the connectors thus causing some confusion.

I am happy I posted on here and waited to see replies as it prevented me from making an unnecessary cut of a wire.

I will pick up another conector at the auto parts store and complete the installation.

Thanks again to JW and all those who contributed to this thread.

Like I said I would be more than happy to send another connector, but the auto store would be quicker.
