Default Will OEM C6 Wheels Fit a C5 ?

I have a stock 1998 C5 and found oem wheels for sale off a 2006 C6.

They are 18" Front and 19" Rears.

Will they Fit?

If they will bolt on, will there be any rubbing since my wheels now are 17" fronts and 18" rears?

Thanks

Some C5s need 1/4" spacers in the rear, some don't. I've run mine both with and without spacers, no problems either way.

Uhm, what do you mean "some"? ALL C5's with base model C6 wheels need a spacer at the rear to make it look flush with the body, otherwise, it will not look right...

I had them on my car with a small spacer on the rear. They looked great and the ride wasnt half bad either.

You say not half bad, So that means it does make the ride a little rougher?

Spacers are a definite then if I want the rim to be flush with the body?

I mean "some" tires rub on the inner wheel well, and "some" don't. Sure, I know they look better with spacers, than without spacers, BUT, it would take about 3/8" spacers to make to make it look "proper." Thank You

If you want it to look flush with the body, you need the spacers at the rear only.

Trust me, get the spacers at the rear, car looks horrible without the spacers with C6 wheels...

Different offset, that's why.

It is a much better ride than the C5 OE tires and closer to non run flat ride. Its acceptable for long distances too.

yes, use a spacer so the rear wheel is more flush with the outside of the wheel well.

Here a pic.. If I were to do it again I would have gone a little thicker on the rear spacer. Since I already have longer studs installed all the way around it would have been easy to do.

Add to that that the use of spacers are generally not a safe approach.

It would be better to use "wheel adapters" with extended lug bolts than to risk sheering off your stock bolts when using spacers. It can happen.

You need a minimum 5 turns on the bolts and adding a spacer is going to take some threads away from keeping your wheels on your car.

Just a thought.

Adding spacers put two stress points on the bolt now making it more prone to failure.

I have posted these pictures before, but here they are again. The first shows a C5 rear wheel well with a OEM C5 wheel.

The next shows the same wheel well with an OEM C6 wheel, with no spacer.

I really don't see much difference in the way the two wheels look.

Car looks great with those wheels!

Are those chrome or polished aluminum?

I originally was going to order the C6 style wheels from house of wheels in chrome, in the original 17" and 18" sizes. I could also reuse my tires if I did that.

I found someone local who has original factory C6 aluminum polished wheels off a 2006 in mint condition for about $675 and they are 18" and 19".

So my questions are do you think these are worth getting over the chrome reproductions?

How does the Aluminum Polished hold up or they clear coated from the factoryu? Do they look almost as good as chrome?

Is it worth going with the bigger wheels since I will have to invest in new tires as well and spacers?

And advice would be appreciated. I never bought wheels before and I don't know to much about the finishes.

Thanks!

You dont notice it at the stock ride height.
Lowered you can see a difference:

Those wheels are the factory polished with a clear coat. They will look great for a long time if you leave them like that. They are not as shiney as chrome or a high polished aluminum wheel without the clearcoat. I had the Z51 tires at that time the pic was taken and those tires actually rode nice for new tires.

I wouldn't even use a wheel that requires a wheel spacer for it to look right...

I'd just get wheels that fit with the right offset without using spacers...

All a spacer/adapter does is put the wheels at the right offset.

And what about taking away threads from the wheel studs?

The proper way of installing spacers requires also installing longer wheel studs...
