im going to be gettin another stock c5 tunnel plate from a member and was just wondering if u can bolt up 2 stock tunnels plates to each other, i've heard of this being done but not sure on fitment. I'm doing it to decrease the cabin heat. Has anyone done this and any tips or ideas??

thanks all!!!
I think its a good idea. but I would put heat & noise material between the plates for better insulation. Let us know how it turns out.
You either need to spot weld the two together or put some insulation between the two as suggested or you'll pick up a harmonic vibration between the two. The bolts are plenty long enough to to bolt two or even three up there.

I doubt you would notice a difference. The factory tunnel plate material is thin to begin with....so you double the thickness...while they both plates still have the same thermal conductivity....
i think im gonna buy the insulation material off ebay and put it inbetween 2 plates or should i put it on the bottom or top of the stacked plates..sound like a good idea??
would 2 plates make the stiffer effect that they say buying an aftermarket tunnel plate does
found the idea from a member on a different thread

Wont be able to use 2 C5 plates BUT you can use 2 C6 plates, I did and rivited them together with about 20-25 rivets and bolted it on with no issue, its 4 times thicker (2 C6 plates) than a single C5 plate. Cost me about $40 all in all. I also went and got some spray paint with ceramic coating in it and painted the plate on both sides, it did lower the heat a lot but not all the way.

Just did this mod this past weekend. The worst part about the whole thing is taking out ALL the bolts on the plate....36 of those little suckers. My advise is to break the tension with a socket and then use a power drill to go the rest of the distance. If you dont do that you'll spend a good 25-30 min on the bolts alone.
Look up a thread that I started called: installing headers...anything else. There were a ton of guys who posted tunnel plate DEI installation walkthroughs that helped a TON. O yeah, your going to need to get the size bigger, think its a 42 x 48..??? maybe, cost like $56 at summit. You'll need the mat a lot longer to run the length of the plate.
