I often hear first and sometimes second gear is usless with a maggie.
Does this mean that at no time in first/second gear you can be at 100 % throttle...even if you ease into it? I just want to make sure people aren't stomping there pedal from a stop, spinning their tires, and blaming the maggie....I can spin them like that on a stock ls6
with just heads and cam on the Z06, 2nd gear is a struggle just stabbing it. i'd think a supercharge would be crazy. there are 2 local z06s with centrifugals and they don't seem to have much luck in 2nd unless they have their drag radials on
ok the maggie is very linear and if you want a little less rwtq you just ease up on the right foot so no 1st 2nd and 3rd gears are very usable it is just that with traction control turned on if you nail it in 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd the engine will overpower the traction control and you hear the engine hunting up and down as the traction control cycles thru pulling timming and cutting the TB back while the tires never stop spinning. with the maggie you learn to drive the car all over again and you use as much right foot as you need/can stick depending on conditions and tires (which IMO you had better learn with any mod).
so usless no tons of fun yes, but respect the maggie
But if you ease into it can you get 100 % throttle?
sure you will just have lots of wheel spin in 1st 2nd and maybe 3rd depending on conditions/tire. at no point can i put 100% rwtq in 1st gear to the road (short of DRs). but this is no diffrent than any other high power engine with good low end tq. I think what you are hearing is more centerd on the 1/4 mile where it is hard to get really good times out of a maggie without serious mods to the drive train to deal with really stickie tires that are able to use the great low end tq. where centri systems that do not make that much low end are easier to run the 1/4 in due to all of the power being up top (with less tq) and not breaking parts when combined with stickie tires. on the street where llife gives us supprises all the time in a 6speed it is nice to have the low end tq there instantly (not having to wait for rpms).

It a whole new animal after the maggie, as well as with any major upgrade. You have to learn how to use it.
Thanks for the replies. This all has to do with this idea i'm toying with of putting a 2.73 rear end in my car when I do my maggie install. I figure if you can't get all of the torque on the road in first or second with a 3.42 rear end, why not gear a little more for speed than torque. I'm hoping to still push the RWT limits of my tires, but not have to shift until I hit 60 MPH. It may be crazy talk, but I guess we'll have to see
