Default Alternator issues...

Took the car over to the local Auto Zone and had them test it and the battery as I was having Charging system faults. They said the alternator was bad and can order a new one for about $200 dollars. I haven't done much shopping around yet but thought I would ask around before I made a decision on buying one. Any words of advice on what/where to purchase a new alternator so I can get this car back on the road?

Thanks guys!

Brian

Was the DIC saying "Charge System Fault"?

I get that DIC all the time on my car even though it is constantly on a CTEK charger.

Took it into the Local Chevy dealership on Monday and am picking it up today. Turns out that the alternator and starter work together and something on the starter had melted. $850 dollar bill later...thank god for the aftermarket warranty that came with the car. Only is costing me $220 out of pocket...

This is the first time I have taken a car to the dealership in years...They are charging $112 just to diagnose each issue the car is having. WOW, highway robbery...the car was also throwing a code that said service ABS. They checked into that and of course it was related to the starter & alternator issue...or so the service guy said. Easy $112 bucks for them...Oh well...hopefully all the issues are cleared up and I can drive the car again and not worry about it.

Wow, do you have headers on the car or anything? I can't imagine why a part on the starter would melt.

Why not? A high resistance contact on the solenoid will do it.
