tail light wiring harness question (gounding block?)

tail light wiring harness question (gounding block?)
I'm going to use a C5 tail light wiring harness, and the lights, on a different car that I'm modifying. I've got the lights and the harness. There is one black wire in the harness, that I will assume is a ground. This seemed a bit strange to me that it would only use one ground lead, and a fairly thin one at that, for powering up to 10 bulbs. My main question is about the connector thing in the middle of the harness. This is a rectangular block with many black wires going into it (that I would assume are the indivudual ground wires from each bulb). The strange thing is that this connector thing is capped of, so it doesn't look like it actually connects with anything. Can anyone tell me exactly what this thing is?
