Default Need Clutch Feedback.

OK guys its about clutch time. I've been looking and the Spec I and II, Monsters II, ACT, and CenterForce. The car is at 413RWHP and 396RWTQ. I just added a FAST 92 and LS2 tb so I will have it retuned after the clutch and I might put a set of heads on later. Ill be doing all the work myself. Im looking for a clutch that will hold but not chatter. If some one has another clutch they like let me know. I did a search but most were for 600RWHP cars and I dont need anything like that. Thanks alot guys. Also the car really wont see the drag strip maybe once or twice. Mostly street driving. Just want something that will be there for me if I need it to be.

LUK pro gold or OEM GMPP LS6. I'm sure the aftermarket gucci clutch crowd will soon state otherwise.
Use the search funtion, there are numerous post about problems with every single type of aftermarket clutch sold, I imagine most are installation related.
My point is that there is no guarantee with any clutch you choose. Most will tout their choice as the best without much justification as to why.
The safest bet for reliability at your HP level in my opinion is a LUK clutch and to drive the car reasonably. There are many with your HP levels running the stock setup without issues.

I figure if im going to spend the money why not go with an aftermarket set-up. I plan on doing the flywheel and all the fun stuff. The stock one only has 48000 miles on it but I dont think its going to like it when I get a new tune and heads. Thanks for the input though. I also thought about the LS7 set-up. I also dont want to have to drive me car reasonably and worry about it. Thanks again

I would go with the LS7 clutch setup for you goals. But if you want aftermarket i would go with a monster clutch. I have not done a stage 2 monster but have done a few stage 3's with great results. Definatly replace the slave while everythings apart.

Thanks alot. I want to make sure I cover myself if I want to do more. Im thinking about replacing the 3.42's with 3.90's. I just want to make sure I will be ok if I do more.

Thanks man. Looks like I might be going with the LS7. Really cant beat it for the price. Anyone know the weight difference of the LS7 flywheel and the C5 flywheel?

Default Ls7 clutch

I just did this changeout & both the flywheel & pressure plate
are about 7lbs. heavier than the LS6 settup. However, I really
like the feel of the clutch & no chatter. Be sure you check for the
pin weights & transfer them to your new setup. I have no vibration
whatsoever.

diamond clutch is just a tad bit more than a ls7 unit but will handle a ton more abuse.

Dont buy a Monster Level 3. Lotsa chatter and a horrible noise from the disc when the glaze builds up on the mating surfaces. Its got excellent clamping power but its overkill for the street. It likes the abuse that street driving doesnt dish out hence glazing..... the sound is downright embarrasing. It can be temporarily remedied by doing several higher rpm (2500-3000) clutch engagements like what would be done at the drag strip.

I'm using the RPS twin lite. Very nice clutch, but a bit pricey. Clutch feel is great and no chatter.

I have the Centerforce DF and at its price point it was a no brainer. Both my buddy and I have 450 rwhp and no issues. A little chatter during brake and a nice firm pedal thru the motion really lets you feel what the clutch is doing.

Also i called the CF tech guy and he spent a half hour on the phone with me and i say if you have the time call, he really schooled me on clutches/driving style. Taught me a bunc!

Excellent description of my Monster stage III. Horrible street clutch IMO.
