Default engine removal

has anyone removed it from above the car????
im going to be rebuilding it so if i have to take half of it apart to get it out thats no problem. I just dont want to have to raise the car off of it. Dont exactly have means to do that.

Do a search. It can be done from the top or bottom. Some good threads on this.

Now that is determination in a single car garage! Do you have to roll the car out to get the engine out?

No, the horizontal beam the engine is hanging from rolls forward and back on a pair of beams supported by those yellow posts. All I have to do is lift the engine high enough to clear the front end, then roll it forward and out. All it really needs is rollers in the center so I could move the engine left and right...but it seems to work well enough, so I never bothered.

I need to pull the motor out of my 98. I don't know a lot about the LS engines. I bought a GM shop manual for the 98 and it looks like the book wants me to pull the A arms, steering rack, A/C, shocks, and all kinds of stuff. Do you need to pull all of this to go out the top? The A/C is brand new and I realy don't want to unhook it all. Pulling motors is a job but something I have done in my old Accord, a Ranger & Mustang I bought and sold, and my 70 Monte Carlo.

I have a similar set up to Its Go Time's for overhead hoisting and have plenty of room. I built a frame on casters that is 8' wide and height adjustable (without a motor on it) up to 10' tall with a chain fall as a hoist. I can pull the motor and wheel it right out the door and drop the motor back in my truck. I just bought this C5 with blown motor for a friggin' steal.

I left the A/C in and dropped the cradle with the shocks, a-arms, rack, and cooler attached with the motor hooked up to the cherry picker. The job was not that bad actually.
