I have been experimenting with matching Mil Yellow on my 2003 without any success. From the damaged OEM parts on my car, I can see that the "yellow tint" is applied over a bright white. I tried that but what I get looks like a good match in my garage but it is orange compared to the OEM paint out in the sunlight. I also noticed that some OEM parts like the side moulding and license plate cover appear to be painted over the black primer with no white base. I only need to paint one headlight lid and front plate cover. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get a decent match on just those small parts?
The shop that installed and painted my L-5's commented how tuff it is to match. They actually made 3 paint swatches so me the owner of shop and the painter could agree on the color. This is always been my issue when vendors have a pre-painted sail on a mod like a hood or spoiler, I just feel you need to have the car there.
Why not just pick up a used lid and cover from Corvette Recycling or similar? They have MY pieces from time to time. And if they don't have any in stock, you can always request them to start looking for them. I purchased a used MY quarter panel from them and the color match is 100% perfect. As cheap as those two parts would be, you're probably looking at more money (and time/hassle) trying to re-paint your damaged ones.
They are in Utah. Excellent experience with them. Prompt shipping at a reasonable price. I checked their site but couldn't tell if they have what you need in stock but you can contact them, let them know what you need, and they'll look for it.
I'm sure there are plenty of other similar operations out there (google?). Someone on this forum pointed me to this one. I also picked up a few other needed parts from various forum members to repair my "incident". The forums are quite a resource and an excellent community.
