Default Metal endlinks

What year did GM switch from the plastic to metal swaybar endlinks?
Thanks.

I think metal endlinks became standard in 2001. I swapped out my plastic ones in 2003. One was broken.

I believe the Z06 got them in 2001.

In 2002, they were used on all C5s.

I manufactured them myself, cost alltogether 27 or so USD. Golf III or something like that rods. You can weld them too. I did beacuse ebay cheapest were 40 usd´+tax+and transport and noone sells them in my country under 60-70 bucks...

pics here and it`s preatty easy job if you have some tools. Only thing that matters is thikness of bolt when choosing .

I went with about 120 bucks worth in high end heims.
I was not impressed with the factory metal links at all and they were installed properly
I'd say they were junk

You are the first person I have seen here in a very, very long time to claim that sort of trouble with the factory units. If anything, the open style Heim joint units are the ones usually getting poor reviews (mainly)due to noise. I've seen numerous posts to that effect.

Do you road race? Do you have T1 (or other beefy aftermarket) bars? Is your suspension lowered and/or or were you experiencing any bump-steer?

Cheap heims failed , I know , I had them.
Street only.
I have aftermarket bars and lowered an inch.
Nothing extreme.

My good heims rarely let out a squeak but never rattle.

Why would bumpsteer affect the endlinks ?

Wasn't sure if you were experiencing any other suspension or steering anomolies besides end link failure. Interesting that so many other folks are running factory end links with no failures like you described. Doesn't make sense that the OE units are junk with so many non-failure usages going on, especially on a street-driven non-competition application. Possible defective units in your particular case seems to be the most logical answer. GM of course does not manufacture end links (or a great many other components) and sometimes supplier changes are made or running spec changes are made on some things from time-to-time. Could have even been a "bad batch" situation too. The design itself is sound.

SWEET! Those endlinks in your pictures with the blue stripe on them...what are those from originaly? Do they have the same diameter stud as the C5? They look really rugged!

Nice job!

He said "Golf III". Not sure what year, etc. I'm not that familiar with all the various VW models. Never heard of a "Golf III". Maybe a Euro-model?
