Default Oil pressure question....

So I was driving on the highway today and my oil pressure gage pegged out. I checked the dic and it read 129psi. The car ran fine, no smoke or hesitation (I wasn't laying into the throttle though). I pulled over, oil level was about a half quart over (a hair over the operating range). When I restarted the engine the oil press. gage pegged out again, it reads 129psi no matter what the rpm's are. It did the same thing after sitting for a couple of hours.
1)Could my oil pressure sending unit have crapped out?
2)If so where is it located on the block so I can swap it out?

Yup: sounds like your oil pressure sending unit went south. It is located behind the intake which has to come off. If you are mechanically inclined it can take anywhere from 30 min to an hour or so (give or take).
Once it goes out most folks choose to relocate it which is what I did to make it easier to service if needed again.
If you look at the sticky up above here you will see several options to relocate and to replace.
good luck,

Thanks for the heads up. That is kinda crappy; couple hours labor for a $46 part. Guess I am buying that and a new intake gasket set. Thanks again.

Before you pull the intake look over the forum for the cut-the-panel solution to create a hidden access port. I did it and had the job done in 1/2 hour. And I can use the access port to re-replace the sending unit which started giving me the 180 PSI reading right after I installed it!

I'm begining to doubt it's the sending unit but I don't know what else it could be...
